A timeless and moving romantic comedy. Uptight mother Maggie (Sarah Jessica Parker: Sex and the City) and her former Italian lover, Luca, go on a road trip across scenic Italy pursuing Maggie's rebellious teenage daughter (Rosie Day: Outlander) who tries desperately to return to New York. An unmissable, feel-good rom-com with a stellar cast. Not to be missed!

Surprisingly delightful surprise

I watched this film only because it was a road trip film plus a road trip to Rome so was different in that respect.
It was a very watchable and flowed along nicely.
The friendship between the rebel daughter and the rebel mum was funny and they were like two peas in a pod the relationship between the two of them and how they helped each other though there were years between them in age.

The scenery was beautiful and I liked the cut scenes from the car taken as if you were driving yourself and could see Rome for the first time just lots of fun parts and an interesting insight into family life in Italy plus the dynamics of mother /daughter relationship.

Overall very good film worth a watch don't take too seriously just relax and enjoy your road trip!

I don't normally write film reviews, but after reading some of the shockingly bad ones i had to!
This is a gentle, easy watch rom com, with many twists and not at all predictable. I'm not a SJP fan and i totally enjoyed this. Very enjoyable watching with stunning scenery and definite male eye candy.

Embarrassingly gauche performance by SJP

This film was cliched and predictable but that wasn't the reason for low rating: it was the embarrassing performance of the star performer who, to be honest, was probably acting the part very well; its just that the part involved a gauche american woman who seemed to think that tossing her hair/playing with her hair/over reacting/trying to hard to please is the way to make friends abroad. Utterly cringeworthy but, it has to be said, not uncommon behaviour by those who make it across the pond. The thing is, you wouldn't want to witness it, well I didn't, so I abandoned halfway through. For that reason I have given it the benefit of the doubt and left it two stars, I suspect that's generous.

Mildly entertaining, if you can look past all the sexism (it's hard)

The probem with 'easy' rom coms is that they are full of dangerous chauvinist attitudes that are disguised in the background under all of this 'fun'. Like, er, can anyone tell me why it's ok for a 40 year old man to stop his 80 year old mother from getting married to the man of her dreams? To the point where he (spoiler alert) so violently tries to break up the ceremony that he pushes his mother on the ground and she gets a concussion?! He's never held accountable, of course. Never even mentioned... And, why does he have any say in this? Oh, and the fact that SJP's character assumes the 40 year old leading man's daughter is actually his girlfriend is also weird. If you want a good romcom that doesn't make you frustrated, try The Rebound with Catherine Zeta Jones.

Raoul Bova tries his best to keep this film going but there is, unsurprisingly, absolutely no chemistry between him and Sarah Jessica Parker in what is supposed to be a love story. Claudia Cardinale, as an ageing nonna, gives a virtuoso performance and simply steals the show.

This doesn't have much of a story line and didn't really create much feeling in me. After watching, I thought "oh, was that it?" and have easily forgotton about it. Having said that, there are worse out there.

Prime prompted me to 'watch again' when I couldn't actually recall watching it the first time. 15 mins I remembered.

Such charmless females! I guess I couldn't stand them squabbling and being ghastly and managing to kill the scenery so gave up before as well.

PS I could try with the sound off. Or perhaps with some opera on in the background.
