First half of a great movie

This could've been super. This is a movie about a lawyer who's young and cocky (never lost a case), with a problem keeping his cool and thinking straight when things are going against him, and makes completely [laughably] absurd desperate decisions as a result. Samuel L's character is very chilled and takes full advantage of this, creating a frame-up that would see the lawyer go down for years. That's the good bit. They then tacked on 10 mins of utter out-of-character crap to wrap it up as quickly as they could.
What would've made this great would be if it went to court again, with him in the dock and trying to defend himself - I would hope in a way that meant he thought he could do it and got cocky again, only to go through more downfalls before finally working it out. That's the movie I wanted. But it would've taken another 40 mins and presumably another 5 film company backers!
Well acted and great production. The wife underused as ever - in my alternate movie there could've been a great setup with Samuel L fooling her into giving testimony against her husband. In the end, the only notable female role was the detective's eyebrow!

The first problem is that it stars Dominic Cooper

Yes the same actor who was in the dreadful Stratton. He cannot act hard and tough, it just doesn't wash. And his American accent? Why bother? Just be a Brit living in the US, it would be so much more believable. Then that laughable opening court scene to establish his apparent credentials as a tough, no nonsense, street wise attorney.

After that it just becomes a generic movie about all the wrong choices (links back to the opening court scene -see what they did there? So clever zzzz). But the choices are so ridiculous that they become farcical.

Boring as hell.

Worth watching but some silly parts to the story

Decent acting with an interesting plot line that had weaknesses especially the ending. There were a couple of decent twists to it. It kept me engaged from the beginning and even when you realised what was going on so I would recommend it.

Yawn Fest

Honestly this movie moved at a pace to put anyone to sleep. I watched it right through to the end, hoping the plot would pick up and would salvage this snooze fest. If you haven't seen it Dominic Cooper was amazing in The Devil's Double which he did a few years earlier, and I was hoping that starring alongside a seasoned veteran such as Samuel L Jackson would save this tripe, but nope. Both of them seemed bored through out this movie.

I guess acting is a fickle thing, you never really know where your next paycheck is coming from, and it seems they both needed a paycheck,

Watchable drivel

Really great actors in a sub-par film. It all seemed a bit rushed and the villain's actions made no sense.

More depth to the characters would have made this film a lot more engaging.

The county attorney doesn't have a password on her work computer

The plot has more holes than a broken sieve, it's full of contrived twists and clichés. But if you ignore all that, the movie is enjoyable. Samuel L. Jackson is good, as usual.

Oh dear I'm less that 2 minutes in and felt the need to write a review.

Does anyone else find it annoying when a child screams and the parent just runs up and hugs them? it's times like that I'm hoping I'm watching a horror and Jason can sort the problem out.

Like OK, have you thought about looking around for dangers? checking what they could be screaming about? asking them, "why are you screaming?"?
