Great film, but irritating blu-ray disk
Verified purchase
The film is one of Hitchcock's best - no point in adding to the already hundreds of reviews out there or on IMDB.com

The blu-ray disk itself has a splendid re-printed and remastered image, but is very annoying when you want to kick it off at the start of the film. There are the obligatory copyright things, and then, a fairly long infomercial about Univeral studios and its past films, which you can't get past without it all playing. This happens if you termporarily pause the film for too long, or stop it to restart. Some disks do behave badly like this - others are fine, so it isn't down to the blu ray player (I have 2 different ones, and it does this on both).

There's a reason why they call it a classic

I've been put off watching old films in the past by the very stylised dialogue, but this just sparkles. Total classic, Stewart is just perfection. I'm now on a binge of his and Hitchcock's films. Highly recommended.

An Absolute Classic

If you have never watched this film it is an absolute classic, and a master class in the art of making a thriller! Grace Kelly is as gorgeous as ever, the only bit I don't get is why does James Stewart's character doesn't want to marry her?

One of Hitchcock's best

Watched this again recently, still thoroughly enjoyable, great performances, a fantastic purpose-built set, and still full of tension even you've seen it before and know what's going to happen. Doesn't feel dated in its plot, if a little in its relationship attitudes.

Hitchcock's Best?
Verified purchase
My favourite Hitchcock film, with his inimitable blend of suspense, comedy and romance. It's a masterclass in technique, keeping the action limited to a sinlge setting without any sense of strain. In fact everything seen from the rear window of the title, apart from the odd shot, is a single set built in a studio - to get the necessary height the ground floor had to demolished so that a basement used for storage could be incorporated.
Grace Kelly, the archetypal cool blonde shows an unsepected warmth in her scenes with James Stewart and the lesser roles are equally well played, particularly by Thelma as the insurance company's nurse who assists Kelly with her sleuthing.
The restoration used for the Blu Ray, though not quite up to modern standards. is a big improvement on the prints shown on televison or DVD in the past, which had suffered severe fading. At last we can appreciate the film as it was meant to be.

Still works

Obviously watched this aware that it an iconic film but that many films even from the 90’s feel quite slow and dated now. This was obviously an old film (and that in itself is quite engaging) but it has held its interest, suspense and entertainment value amazingly

Classic Hitchcock at it’s best

A classic and funnier than I remember, Thelma Ritter is great in it. The fact that a middle aged James Stewart would be rejecting Grace Kelly does stretch credulity though😉

A classic film with all the best elements of Hitchcock
Verified purchase
A classic film with all the best elements of Hitchcock. And you also get Thelma Ritter, James Stewart and Grace Kelly at her most delectable. This is a must see film for all of the previous reasons and because of the originality of the production. A delight!
