BUILDING UPON STRENGTHS

This "Grey's Anatomy" spin-off continues to evolve. Early seasons dwelt largely on the Practice's glossy ever-changing romantic relationships. There followed increased emphasis on ethical matters, which propelled the show into a higher league. A devastating storyline about Charlotte earned widespread praise, indicating how the series could perhaps best proceed. Henceforth there would be no holding back on hard hitting issues.

Season 5 continues the mix - the Practice's dysfunctional staff again with problems of relationships (Addison with Sam, Pete with Violet), all sometimes heatedly disagreeing on such fraught subjects as euthanasia, patient confidentiality, organ donations - drug addiction to become a major concern.

This is a strong season for Cooper and Charlotte, he suddenly confronted by an eight year old son he never knew he had. (Griffin Gluck as Mason is excellent, tissues needed for some of his scenes.)

Babies are inevitably much in evidence. The show's great irony is that central character Addison delivers so many but seems unable to have one of her own. (The 22 episodes are framed by visits to her therapist.)

Modest bonuses, with a gag reel enhanced by newcomer Benjamin Bratt floored by a door. Some may find the music track intrusive, especially if they prefer to hear what people are saying.

Overall there remains plenty to please. The show not only entertains, but raises issues that stimulate discussion - this very much to the good.

Meh. If it was free people would watch because of the greys link

It’s okay. Wouldn’t pay for it if I’d have watched a few more eps of the first season. This should be free with prime. If it was free people would likely watch due to the greys anatomy cross over

I'm a fan of Greys Anatomy so I thought I would give this spin off a try.
Thought it a little inconsistant with the main series but still watchable and entertaining.
Ended up buying the whole series on Prime.

Found it slow to get back into the flow somehow, then wham! Lots of Drama and emotional upheaval - is there such a thing as a happy relationship or person?? Not sure the characters are running true to previous series and the writing is 'bitty'. Nowhere near as compulsive as Grey's Anatomy but still gripping nonetheless.

Have the dvds of the full series so far. Cried buckets at the end of this one - not just sadness but the way the directors and cast handled a very sensitive issue. The cast are well matched and support each other well. I just wish Addeson wouldn't keep landing herself in so many romatic "pickles".
