A vaguely passable but instantly forgettable film.

Three stars may be being a bit generous, but I'll give it the benefit of the doubt.
My daughter liked the first Pitch Perfect film. This time, she actually pressed the skip button a few times.
The acting was mediocre apart from the brief appearance of Snoop. He's just a legend and simply doesn't know how not to be cool.
The storyline was bland. It had potential but never got round to exploiting it. The singing was poor this time too. Maybe they were going for more realism but even my daughter thought they struggled with the songs.
The film left you with the feeling that the first film did well so the studio rushed to get a second installment out and didn't give enough time to the project to polish off the rough edges.

Decent sequel
Verified purchase
Whilst not being in the same class as the original, this sequel still has enough going for it to make it worth a watch.

There's even less of a plot this time around - a calamitous performance early in the film (in front of the President and First Lady no less) leads to big problems for the Bellas. Apparently the only way to rescue the esteemed Bella name and reputation is to enter (and win) the A Capella World Championships. All the old faces are back with the odd new one thrown into the mix - Hailee Steinfeld for example adds a fresh face and there's a new enemy to compete against in the form of Das Sound Machine (yep they're German).

For me, the whole endeavour doesn't feel as fresh and funny as the first flick. It still flows along in amiable fashion though with enough good tunes and amusing gags to keep you smiling. Fat Amy (Rebel Wilson) and the commentators (John Michael Higgins and Elizabeth Banks) are still stealing all the best lines with other memorable moments supplied by some celebrity cameos (yep that really is the Green Bay Packers).

Very funny

Enjoyable watch and very funny. The songs were better in this film than the first, however I think the story was better in the first because at times this one was a bit far-fetched!! I mean, the whole story essentially stems from the whole world, (including the President of the United States) seeing Fat Amy's private area during a live performance..... I mean, come on!!? Still a great watch and I would recommend. Written well and the actors were fantastic. Hailee Steinfeld featured as well which was a surprise!

Good film to veg in front of

This is an easy film to chill to, to relax in front of. The songs are catchy, there's no nasty projectile vomiting that tainted the first film, and there's familiar characters to keep things comfortable. It's entertaining and is as good as the first - the wit is still there, the catchy songs, the sweet romantic side-plots, and the mild drama. It's a pleasant film that I'm happy to watch again and again.

It might be a film about young women, but it's a film that will entertain anyone!

... so no one would expect this to be as good as the first film
Verified purchase
It's a sequel so no one would expect this to be as good as the first film. It has its moments and is very funny in places. The characters lose some of their essence in this new story - no that they were the best drawn characters in the history of film initially, but they could be different people in this one. It's perfect, "pop the corn and put your brain on the sideboard" type entertainment and the tunes are good and well performed, as usual. Great for a pre-teen sleepover party.

Lightweight but different

I watched with my 12 year old daughter - it's our guilty secret. It's great to see the women take centre stage and the men relegated to unimportant love interests for a change. It's amusing in a smutty way but not that funny. Rebel Wilson is great as Fat Amy but I found some of the fat related humour a bit tired. The best moment is the rival German acapella group's rendition of Muse's the Resistance.

Good sense of humour! HAHA!!!

I have watched this film today and quite enjoyed it than the first one because these songs choices are very good and entertaining. All of the cast of Pitch Perfect 2 were aca-mazing. I have had manage to find some of the sense of humour and it was quite funny. I laughed more than the first one.
My favourite scene were The german group called Das Sound Machine performed Uprising by Muse because the vocals were strong and so was choreography. Overall the film was quite entertaining.

Disappointing

I loved the first one, this one just wasn't as good. A few laughs from the judges John and Gail but mostly the jokes seemed rude, desperate and in bad taste.. they were novel and hilarious in their unexpectedness the first time but not as much here. Also Hailee Steinfeld, I love her but she didn't add anything to the film, she certainly wasn't funny and seemed out of place... I just don't get why she was cast... I did love the casting of Anna Camp, she was perfect in this
