Great film

Forget the critics. This was a lovely film. Obviously not completely true to Beatrix Potter story but who cares. The CGI was brilliant and you really believed the animals were real. Very funny moments. Kids loved it so did grand parents.

James Cordon's grating voice is the least of this film's worries - spoilers below

The basic problem I have is the curious lack of morality in the film. An old man trying to grow veg and defend his garden from pests is beset by a deranged artist and her pet rabbits that talk and plot mischief. The old man is driven to a fatal heart attack by the rabbits' continuous assaults on his patch but the rabbits subsequently feel no remorse and in fact celebrate his demise by trashing his house after the body is removed. They then give his nephew who inherits the house the same treatment and end up causing structural damage to the lady's house and destroying their blossoming relationship. All in all Peter Rabbit is an amoral home wrecker, thief and is possibly guilty of manslaughter. He is also quite glib about putting friends and family in danger in pursuit of his various vendettas. He's sorry at the end so that makes it all ok.
The kids enjoyed it though, hence 2 stars rather than 1. I think Miss Potter might be spinning in her grave over this one.

Brilliant film for all the family

This is one of my now favorites along some of my others in this genre. My late mother was a Beatrix Potter fan. Its full of energy, colour and reminds me of Wallace & Gromit style disasters. Great story and funny animal scenes. An added bonus is one of my crushes, cast as the lead role, since seeing her in Xmen, and that is Rose Byrne.

Playing Moira MacTaggert a CIA officer in two Xmen films. It must be said i was astounded that Peter Rabbit was voiced by James Corden. Not a fan of his, but in this he deserves the recognition for his work on this. Great family feast for everyone over Christmas. Highly recommended. :)

Verified purchase
I rented this movie on Prime and to be honest I wasn't really looking forward to watching it, but my 3 boys 6,8&10 really wanted to see it, after 30 seconds my mind was changed this movie takes you in instantly, it's exciting, funny, and a little sad but most of all it's entertaining from the word go till the very end, I hope there will be a sequel

NOT Beatrix Potter!
Verified purchase
Very cleverly produced, cinematically clever, but Beatrix Potter must be turning in her grave! If you forget it is supposed to be based on her characters, it is quite entertaining, but in every other aspect I personally found it very disappointing. I love the Potter stories and paintings as they are so typically English, this film is an Americanised version of her stories, in my humble opinion. I am not sure where this was made, but if it was written and filmed over here, I am disgusted frankly. Leave our tales alone, they are very precious! Let Disney do their thing.

Gorgeous bunnies

I love these little rabbits. Fantastic animation. I wish I could just pinch their little faces. The usual love story made watchable by the antics of these pesky bunnies. Took my little one (aged 6) to see it at the cinema and had to buy it when it came out. An enchanting movie suitable for all the family.

Ignore Kermode and watch it

Having watches PR2 with the girls, and seeing THAT review, I had to watch PR1 and I have no idea what the issue was.. Great watch even for a 48 year old without the kids - modernised yes, but rightly so, and endearing most of the time. Feel good movie, with a few laugh-out moments, great music and vibe, and really well-produced. If it feels cliched in parts, it is because it's meant to be like that. And faithful enough to its roots.

Kiddies loved it, adults didn't
Verified purchase
The film is not in any way related to the books or the series on the tv. Tells the story of Peter, his 3 sisters and Benjamin, Peter is an orphan and now lives with Mr Mcgregor's neighbour. There is a bit of strong language and scenes not sure how well it suits little kids - my 3, 7 and 10 year old loved it! Personally I think it was ok, but hey ho it's for the kiddies and they loved it!
