Ruined by politically correct sermonising

Such a pity that the relentless march of virtue signalling has been allowed to pollute this once excellent show with its formally brilliant production values. Some of the old magic is there, but inevitably this tedious moralising (it's bad to be racist, fascists aren't nice, it's OK to be queer, women had to struggle against discrimination) undermines the dramatic integrity, slows it down and just reduces it to a ghastly PC lecture. This is supposed to be entertainment, not a social history documentary. I gave up half-way through the third episode. It's so naff: the obligatory positive black role model - urbane, intelligent, handsome and so deeply compassionate... No matter that the likelihood of a plummy-voiced black man being an officer in the British Army in the 1920's is zero (not to mention a Rastafarian priest.) How long will it be before the writers shoehorn in a lecture about the evils of Brexit, I wonder, or we get a little riff on gender-fluidity?

Caveat Emptor

This purchase was a real disappointment. I purchased season 5 as it said it was available. Then I discovered that it is available one episode at a time, after paying for the season! It is also on TV one episode at a time so I think this was an unnecessary expense with no advantage, very disappointing.

Disappointing

I love the Peaky Blinders series and have watched the other series several times, including when it was on prime video and also bought the box set, so I was very much looking forward to this latest series.

It was alright.... That's about as much as I can say. In fact, I'm being a little generous. It seemed to me that they'd run out of steam for the storyline and, without wanting to go into too much detail, as I don't do spoilers, all I'll say is the supernatural take that ran through this series was needless and scraping the barrel. As for Polly suddenly having a weird personality transplant into a wanton nutjob - it just didn't work. Sadly, I was relieved when the last episode finished.

They should have left it alone at the end of the last last series, rather than go down the road they did.
Don't get me wrong, some parts were very good - classic peakys, but I found myself getting irritated with how these (as far as I'm concerned), unnecessary additions got thrown in.

By the looks of it there will be another series and I'm gutted to say that I probably won't bother.

Better than last season, but still lacks the original grit

This is a vast improvement on season 4's hammy gangster affair which I was glad to see finished. The show is more tense and heading back in the right direction, but still lacks the grittiness of the early seasons. Having Oswald Mosley as the season's lead antagonist was a brilliant idea, yet the whole fascist story line seems too toned down for a show like this. The ending wasn't too bad and leaves us guessing for season 6, but I think they should have taken a lot more chances here.

What an excellent show

I watched every series and loved it, I've kept it because it may be worth a second viewing. As with many series it had its odd moments where the script went a bit wild. It's almost as if the writers get bored and go off on an unlikely tangent. Having said that it didn't ruin it, it wasn't exactly a 'Bobby in the shower' trip and the superb acting carried it through. Looking forward to a new series.

The latest series of the fantastic production. Since series one the story has developed along with amazing music, acting and styling. Putting such a contemporary soundtrack with a 1919/20's story and styling which is correctly dated yet current. Looking forward to the next series already.

What is not to like about Peaky Blinders?
Verified purchase
This series is just as good as the previous 5. Peaky Blinders has to be the best programme ever and deserves all the accolades that it receives. It is so well acted and you really care about all the Shelby family and what happens to them. You will laugh and you will cry whilst watching this series, but you will never be disappointed. You get a bonus with this DVD of two beer mats with Tommy and Arthur on one side and The Shelby Distillery on the other, you can pretend you are in the Garrison!! (fans of the programme will know what I mean).
