Brilliant film. One most well worth getting on blu-ray and viewing in HD form with sound turned up.

Brilliant movie and cast as well. Its fantasy but based on real-life situations that would have took place in such ancient times. The film for anyone who hasn't seen it is about a young viking who while a child gets abandoned in north America, long before the arrival of what would one day be the spanish explorers. The vikings during this era and within this story, travel on their longships to north american shores in seek of conquest, gold and slaves to take home. But in this story, they also seek the former young child and very respected member of their society as well. But when the vikings return to capture the child and bring it back home, the child has grown up to be a mighty warrior, adopted by the north american indian tribes who fostered it from its youth. The former viking child leads a most heroic and very entertaining to watch counter-offensive against the viking invaders. Very violent fantasy action this film, have to say but most enjoyable if you like that kind of thing. Not to mention, if you happened to be fortunate enough to have the 'tech' as well, worth getting the popcorn out and watching on the widescreen with the lights off and vol turned up, awesome stuff that no kidding. Far out ;-) .

Bad Transfer of Decent Action Movie

The story is what it is, although not as good as Apocalypto or The Revenant which deal with very similar themes. That gets a solid 3 stars from me.

The video transfer to this disc is horrible. I ended up running my projector on the HDR profile to wrestle a watchable image from the heavily de-saturated, grain-added, super-contrasty picture served up by the HD standard (Rec709) profile. What makes it worse is that the trailer/excerpts used in the featurettes are correctly colorized and show how good this film should look (as well as having the necessary subtitles in the image unlike the main feature). Audio is nothing outstanding but serves the story well enough. One star (For staying in focus!)

The film is OK. It needs a better disc than this though.

A ridiculous waste of time, money and effort.

This movie makes the director Ed Wood look competent. A depiction of Vikings that reminded me of Monty Python's knights who say "Ni!" without a sense of humour. I have watched this film once and that was once too often. The Vikings' armour is somewhere between the 14th Century and pure fantasy. There is one scene of mass slaughter in the depths of winter and yet there are apparently flies flying around! Why American film makers take the time and trouble to make a supposedly historically based story and then proceed to glibly ignore any aspects of that history defeats me. As a piece of art this is the film industry's equivalent of painting by numbers. This film would only represent value for money if the producers were offering to pay us to take it off their hands. What a great idea for a story ruined by people over promoted. In case you haven't guessed I'm somewhat disappointed.

Liked this story about a young viking boy left for dead by his invading viking bretheren because he refused to kill a north American native, and then taken in and brought up by a north American tribe, and how his life comes full circle in adulthood some 15 years later he defends his adopted people against the same viking raiders who left him in the first place. This is not for young children there are a lot of bloody sword slicing scenes, heads being lopped of etc,so not for the faint hearted either, but it weaves a good solid story, backed up by strong performances by Karl Urban and Clancy Brown. An all round solid movie, won't win oscars but nonetheless, a worthy watch

dear lord what a dull film. I mean its an adventure romp so the fact the Vikings look like extras from the Lord of the Rings doesn't really bother me ,the overall imagery itself it good etc. And it should have ticked all the boxes , Vikings, Native Americans , axes & arrows aplenty . But sadly dull
