A wonderful spectacle for all ages!

The second Paddington movie was strongly recommended by a (grownup) friend, so I thought I should give this original one a chance too. All the superlatives have already been given about the incredible look and action of the Paddington character, the faithfulness to Michael Bond's original story, with its gentle messages for kids about manners, family love, and taking care of strangers who are homeless, so I'll just pick out two of the things I loved most: the calypso band that turns up like a chorus at significant moments, and the casting - so many great actors obviously loving being part of this revival of a loved story, but I have to say that it's Ben Whishaw's voicing of the bear from Darkest Peru that stole the show for me!

Lovely, feel good film.

Lovely, feel good film. It has an old fashioned feel while also being modernised for modern children, the balance is just right. Excellent performances from Hugh Bonneville and Sally Hawkins. Hugh Bonneville gives a great comic performance and Sally Hawkins is deliciously eccentric. Julie Walters is very funny as the Scots housekeeper. I loved the Paddington books when I was a child, about fifty years ago and this version, though a bit different, captures the innocence and humour of the originals. Ben Whishaw is just right for the voice of Paddington. Thank goodness Disney didn't get their tasteless hands on it first! The music soundtrack is really good as well, particularly the calypso band playing on the London streets as Paddington passes by.

Simply entertaining

Sometimes when you just want to chill out and be entertained, then films like this, which are well made, well acted and homely do the trick.

Paddington arrives in London for the first time seeking home. He is initially aiming to be re-united with on old explorer who visited deepest Peru. Instead he founds the Brown family, although he does have some bother with the explorers daughter.

When I was a lad (yes, we had TV then) one of the programmes on kids TV was an animated version of the Michael Bond's Paddington stories. It was narrated by the great Michael Hordern and used a kind of cut out animation technique (far before South Park) with monochrome backgrounds. It wasn't my favourite animation (DANGER MOUSE - DE DAH DE DAH DE DAH!!!) but it was enjoyable enough.
Being now a father, and wanting to impart the "This was like it was in my days" stich (cue comments about dinosaurs roaming the plains in response), I was both happy and worried when I heard that they were going to bring the Peruvian bear to the big screen.
I must admit, I shouldn't have been. Having a homage to the old TV animation at the start and featuring Michael Bond (now no longer with us alas) in a brief cameo were a good start. But the real life cast are excellent and the CGI bear...well the CGI is really really good, he doesn't feel like special effects at all. The storyline is good too.
Frankly, if you ever liked Paddington either in TV or book format (or indeed both), then this movie is a must see.

I recently went to see Paddington 2 with my grandchildren which was absolutely delightful and wonderful and decided to rewatch the first film to refresh my memory. Charming and beautifully done, the character of Paddington is spot on. My two granddaughters who have all the Paddington books loved both films and they are laugh out loud and totally heartwarming.

The voice of Ben Wishaw is perfect for Paddington and Hugh Bonneville as Mr Brown so funny.

A film for the entire family and one that will lift your heart

A good family film. Some adult supervision may be required.

This is a movie for children although the intentions of the villain are quite gruesome. It's a fun film for all the family although some scenes may be unsuitable for small kids. As a lifelong fan of Paddington I thoroughly enjoyed this movie with its great special effects and competent acting talent. It's a good introductory storyline with an opening for sequels, of which there is now one.
The DVD menu is easy to follow and the picture and sound qualities are excellent.

Not bad, Adults recognise traits of "that bear" ...children will adore the modern mayhem computer animation brings.

Whilst this is not the Paddington bear of your distant youth it is very well done, we took our daughter to see this at the cinema, adults enjoyed it, the animation is excellent & speeds your acceptance of Paddington without Michael Horden's narration & the cut out simple animation of BBC at teatime back in the day.

We found this sealed for £1.00 at a car boot sale, bought it to go in our collection & have enjoyed it on our projectors (big screen is a reason to hold onto your DVDs).

Particularly enjoyed the back story of Paddington being raised in Peru (the deepest, darkest bit) 😉 which made "new" Paddington far mor acceptable to transition with & "believe in".

Look out for a new Paddington film shortly, (in production currently).

Now, if only I could rid myself of the association of that damned Jeremy Clarkeson (his mum designed the popular 1970's soft toy which doubtless fuelled his upper class boorish nature).😉😂

Paddington was a movie that I wanted to see for a very long time. Everyone had seen it including my grandchildren and I felt left out when they mentioned how lovely the movie was. I thought it would be a kiddish movie but I was pleasantly surprised.
Paddington had a powerful story about family values, the humanity which all of us should have, trust. The movie gives an overall good feeling and the charactor Paddington is done superbly. I highly recommend this movie to people of all ages.
