Gripping horror

The synopsis of this film is enough to make you want to watch it. A man wakes up in a pit full of dead bodies. He has no memory of how he got there. After escaping he enters a house full of strangers who are also extremely agitated and just like him they have all lost their memory.

The elephant in the room though is that if they are all alive then who has killed all the people? That is when the fun begins. What I really liked about this film was that it continued to surprise, I got it wrong every time I tried to guess what was coming next and that for me is a real plus.

The cast are a brilliantly disparate group too and they all do an excellent job of keeping you right on the edge of your seat. The pacing is just right; the make up spot on and even the music gets the mood just right. There is not a lot not to like here (sorry about the double negative). It was filmed in Hungary but has a feel of being American despite a cast that is International. If you like your horror’s to be a bit on the dystopian side then you should have a look at this.

Zombies with a difference

Starts really well, a man wakes up in a mass grave with total amnesia. He's stuck until a mute oriental woman lowers a rope and pulls him out. The film is a tense thriller to start with but eventually sinks into shock tactics. Well acted, well-paced, but can't someone come up with an idea that isn't basically Aliens, Predator, or zombies? What if it is a plague which has killed off most of humanity and left a lot as crazed killers? It's still a zombie gore fest. You may find it worth a watch but I wouldn't watch it again.

Habe mir vom Film mehr erwartet. Geschichte nicht schlecht, aber man hätte sicherlich mehr daraus machen können. Die Story anfangs konfus und viele Fragen die sich der zuseher stellt werden erst am Ende beantwortet. Einge bleiben dennoch offen. Es kommt den ganzen Film über kein "angenehmes Gruseln " auf. Horrormovie der untersten Kategorie.

I have not seen one even remotely decent horror movie with the Tribeca Film name on it ("BROUGHT TO YOU BY AMERICAN EXPRESS!"). Maybe there's one out there, but I'm through trying to find out. Intriguing premise. Someone compared this to Memento(!). How insulting. An hour in and we're still on first names. The "I don't remember" well never, ever seemed to run dry. The dour and melodramatic tone of this entire film was like fingernails on a chalkboard. I'd say they broke out the strings several times for NO GOOD reason. Worst of all, I stuck around to the very end, and DIDN'T CARE what this was all about. Futile filmmaking at its worst. Let me tell you, Sharlto Copley is a LONG way from District 9 appearing in this. Zero stars.
