A great twist on modern vampire tales
Verified purchase
With Tilda Swinton and Tom Hiddleston leading an outstanding cast, you know you're already in for a treat.
In a world where vampires are no longer able to openly hunt, and their prey has polluted its blood to a point it's become toxic for vampires to consume, tenuous relationships with a select few humans allows our protagonists to exist on the very edge of survival. But for how long?
This is a wonderful tale of love, humour and survival, offering an interesting, if not rather sad depiction of these legendary immortals.

I've enjoyed it, although it falls far short of the Jarmusch I love. This is no Stranger Than Paradise. The allegory is fun, but the constant reminders of the age of the vampires with continuous references to historical characters and events they've met and witnessed becomes tedious very quickly. It's lazy scriptwriting and doesn't ring true in the dialogue. I think people, with short lives, wouldn't rehash the same conversations over and over. Vampires wouldn't still be harking back to the "good ole days" 400 years ago and talking about things as if they're only telling the story for the first time.

Trying a bit too hard to be 'right on'

A pretty film that lost its way trying to preach a message rather than telling a story
Each character felt developed as far as the director would allow but with all the talent on screen a few dollars more could have gone on plot development
Felt like a student film, almost there but too fixated on talking to the directors friends

And I thought I was bored of vampire movies...

...but this is a sublime film. Transcendental atmospherics and superb acting all round from everyone, extras, bit parts, all amazing. The uncritical pop science in the script lets it down. Without the quality acting, directing and production these random snippets of pop science could have made for a car crash script - but didn't. Thoroughly enjoyable.

Atmospheric Beauty.

Beautifully filmed love story of the survival of a superior species. If not already will become a cult movie. No unnecessary violence or nudity. Atmospheric Beauty.

My favourite (a bit because of my love of music bias) Jarmush film

Since I play and record music I am a bit bias for the awesome aesthetics in the movie. Plot is very good and all acting wonderful. Love this film!

Tilda Swinton was great, but this wasn't the best of Jarmusch's films (some bits were just too pretentious in a not very impressive way: like 'Stephen Dedalus' on Adam's passport?!). Though the blood popsicles were a neat idea.
