New York Stories.
Verified purchase
Three stories by three directors set in New York City.
The first, from Martin Scorsese is a clichéd portrayal of an abstract artist as an egotistical, self-centred man-child obsessed with his (untalented) assistant and muse who's clearly too young for him – an unconvincing story – though the portrayal of the pretentious NY high-art scene is probably accurate.
The Coppola story is simply appalling; intended to be “cute” and light-hearted, it's an indulgent, badly conceived piece of kitsch.
Woody Allen's contribution is the only successful story in the set; a whimsical fantasy, it's not top-notch Allen, but is way ahead of any of the others here in terms of imagination, humour and execution; it has many of Allen's themes and traits – a slight tale but still funny and entertaining.
Buy this for the Allen story – otherwise don't expect much.
The UK DVD release has no extras; English subtitles are available if required.
4 stars for the Allen, 3 for the Scorsese, none for the Coppola.

Not one of Woody Allens's finest films

I remember being impressed with the 2005 Matchpoint film. However, as I tracked back through Woody Allen's
back catalogue this is probably a less memorable film.

Best of this trilogy BY FAR is Allen's "Oedipus Wrecks". Hysterical.

Interesting, quirky film

Some interesting vignettes and a peek into life in New York in a few quirky situations. If you like Woody Allen, it's one to have on the shelf.

Nice trilogy

A good trilogy of films. I bought it mainly because I am a Woody Allen huge fan of. Not his best but enjoyable. The other two films were good and the DVD was very cheap.

Woody shines

Allen's contribution is quite hilarious and loveable.
Scorcese - yes, a bit pretentious but really a very honest portrayal of artistic angst... maybe.
Coppola - pointless [...].
