The pockets on the 2017 version of this jacket really irritate me. The mechanism for tightening the waste of the jacket is as the bottom of each pocket so you're forced to rest your hand on a plastic tipped piece of chord. It is not all comfortable compared to resting your hands on the silky fabric alone. It is one of life's simple pleasures resting your hands in your front pockets on a cold day, but not with this coat. If North Face is going to persist with this design they should at least fold a piece of lining over the draw string to allow the chord and plastic tip to be tucked away. It isn't often I get a product that angers me, but I HATE these pockets. I HATE them.
Quality wise it is a 5 star jacket, but I'm being generous with a 3 since I would not have bought this had I tried it on in the shop. I've taken a pair of scissors and cut the chords out of the pockets. Damaging an expensive new jacket to make it comfortable is not ideal, but I didn't have time to take it back before my backpacking holiday.
I wanted a jacket that was 100% waterproof, but felt like a jacket rather than a bin bag. This ticks all the right boxes.
Downsides are no internal or chest pocket, and the zip is rubbish. I can live with both as long as the zip doesnt break.
I would have liked to see a bet adjustable hood, but it works so cant complain. Worst ive ever had but still functionable.
All in all, its a fantastic jacket and i cant find anything that has all these features in one product.
Wore it out in heavy rain and a strong wind walked for about 20-25mins when I took it off my t shirt underneath was completly dry. The hood, once adjusted, stayed on even in a strong wind, fits close to the face so there is less chance of wind blowing it off. Drys very fast as the rain does not soak into the material. Very pleased
