Far from the real thing but not too far!

Only the priest, the singer and the actress that plays Athena can actually speak proper Greek, which is a bit disappointing, but understandable. Also, Windex isn't a brand that's available in Greece, don't know where this whole thing came from. Never heard anybody spraying a cleaning solution on wounds etc. And the weddings.. well the preparations are somewhat like that, but the ceremony is quite different. I hope people don't think Greeks are actually like that! Anyway, it's a very enjoyable movie, I've probably watched it 20 times since I was young!

Buying European versions of various Blu-rays is often the cheapest or the only way, as in this case, of getting a Blu-ray region B of various films. That even applies to films that one would assume would have a ready market for and English edition.

However, this German version of this very popular and amusing film is easy to access even for those who are not fluent German speakers. The key is to locate the English subtitle option and the easiest way to do this is to use the handset. This is not always thought of and will save working out what is meant by the Italian option on screen. The handset option will produce the off and language options on the top left of the screen. For English viewers choose the 'off' option as the film is in English like the American edition.

Otherwise ......

For all of those who are keen supporters of this film and who have bought the previous DVD version of this disc, the only issue of vital importance will be whether the Blu-ray offers an improvement technically sufficient to justify the additional expense.

For this reviewer the answer is a clear affirmative. The upgrade offers a clear advance on both image and audio quality with the imaging being a marked improvement. The colours are firmer and there is an increase to the perceived depth of the imaging. The whole film simply becomes more 'real.'

The degree of improvement will also depend on the replay equipment used. In this case the audio could be described as markedly 'high-end' both in hardware terms and in connecting cabling. The television, a more important factor in this case, is of moderate dimensions being a 40 inch screen. It is a high performing 4K unit though which will also have had a positive effect. (Larger screens become increasingly compromised in delivering sharp DVD imaging unless larger viewing distances are available. Sharpness is achieved at much closer distances for Blu-ray discs).

Readers with alternative equipment will have to interpret this review bearing in mind their own equipment and its comparative advantages and disadvantages.

The Blu-ray disc offers purchasers with suitable replay equipment an enjoyable improvement over the previous DVD version

Ok maybe as a greek who leaves and raise a family abroad i find it a bit of extreme but then again it’s a comedy and it’s very funny. Makes you laugh and kind of gives you a perspective of how are greeks who live abroad. Again i’d say you can see the exaggeration in many parts of the film but that’s what makes it funny.

Girl doesn't meet boy, but falls in love.

Easy watching, but we really want the two protagonists to be together and live happily ever after Convincing acting by all. It's the age old story of people from different backgrounds falling in love. I hadn't expected to enjoy it as much as I did.

My Big Fat Greek Wedding

I recently bought this DVD for a friend for their birthday so have not watched this copy. But have seen the film several times and will be purchasing one in the near future for myself as it is a wonderfully light-hearted "feel good" film of which there seem to be so few of nowadays. It is another example of one of those highly successful low budget films full of good humour which you just can't help laughing at and is a gem of a film.

It is EXTREMELY well acted and magnificently cast which no doubt is a major factor in making it the success it is. The emphasis is very much upon a Greek family living in the USA. The new world is embraced but everything good is derived from their Greek culture and heritage (according to the Father!) Without spoiling the plot or storyline for anyone, there is a scene with a family get together and one person is introduced to them. The Aunt invites them to dinner and is advised that the person "Don't eat meat". This is repeated out loud by the whole gathering causing an audible silence in the room and to which she simply replies, "that's OK we'll have lamb!" ??? Lol!

If you are feeling a little down in the dumps, this cannot fail to cheer you up. The only tears in this film are of laughter!

Needless to say the delivery was on time and in good condition. Another successful Amazon purchase.
