A Classy Doumentary to Reflect a Classy Family

I'm not a particular follower of Boxing but this is a must see for all who appreciate people performing at the top of their chosen profession. I suspect the documentary maker has a passion for the sport and also the individual who is the subject matter as the quality of this film is second to none and the constant theme throughout is one of supreme positivity. Is it a hard hitting, gritty documentary exploring the life of Joe Calzaghe from a journalism perspective, no. Is it beautifully shot, set against a well judged music score with wide ranging and worthwhile interviews and superbly edited boxing sequences, absolutely. Whether the film maker originally intended to make the strong family values and unconditional love and support that the Calzaghes obviously have for each other the focal point of the film, or whether that theme grew organically during production doesn't matter, it leaves a strong lasting impression as a viewer.
The family seem genuinely humble and hard working with good morals and beliefs. A great example to others and this story is told by a documentary maker at the top of their game. A feel good film that will entertain sports fans and also capture those who appreciate high quality film making. Would recommend as a worthwhile way to spend an hour and a half of your time.

I'm not a boxing fan and lost touch with it around the Tyson/Bruno era. I watched this because I'm interested in biographies. It paints a picture of a very nice ordinary family but with extraordinary dynamics between Joe and his father whose role is not underestimated in any way in this documentary. The relationship between Joe and his father is both touching and inspirational. I even enjoyed some of the boxing scenes. I am left feeling a little sorry I hadn't followed Calzaghe's career more closely but it made me smile to see it was such a happy ending.

We live down the road from Newbridge and I am a fan of Joe. This is a wonderful story, peppered with fantastic fight sequences, personal testimonials by family and terrific journalistic insights. I have bought the DVD at least 4 times for family and friends. A sporting legend who in never quitting the little town of Newbridge won over a nation and “eventually” the world of boxing.

Words can't describe how good this film really is. Such a great insight into one of the true greats. Joe is such a lovely man but with the heart of a dragon. I laughed, cried, smiled and jumped out of my seat punching the air at least 5 times while watching it. What a great man and what a great family he has. Happy retirement JC :)

Very moving and insightful documentary right from when Joe was a young kid (being bullied) who took up boxing from a tiny gym in Wales to today as a family man with his kids and cool family! One of the best British boxers of all time, without doubt, who is also a great dad today by the looks of this (and who has a great dad, who was also his trainer) and their strong bond and relationship is clearly a key factor as to why Joe stayed unbeaten his whole professional career. Great watch, even if you're not a massive boxing fan, you'll still be moved by it!

Everything a great documentary should be. It has heart, soul and beautifully tells the story of before, during and post Calzaghe's career. What a great guy he is. Along the journey it explores the relationship Joe has with his dad, Enzo (who trained him), whose amazing vision and belief propelled Joe's career. This doc captures the journey and the relationship which makes for a very special film indeed. I knew JC was good. I didn't realise quite HOW good he was until this.
