"They don't make them like that any more"...oh yes they do

This was a truly epic western of a type that you rarely see nowadays. Not absolutely realistic, but realistic enough for the viewer to be thoroughly drawn in. No wokeness which has ruined so many an otherwise good western, just plain solid acting from a pletherer of talented veteran actors.
Tom Selleck gave an elite performance as Monte Walsh ably supported by Keith Carradine as Chet his sidekick. Interestingly Carradine's brother Robert was also cast as Sunfish Perkins, another cowhand.
The storyline was slow and meandering in keeping with the slow paced life of a cowboy as opposed to the rushed urgency of 'progress' which threatened to overwhelm (and eventually did) the traditional western life.
For me the film was edged with sadness, I am going through a time of mementous change presently, and I do in part understand the regret that often comes with that change. I also don't believe in progress for progress sake but much prefer to have traditional ways enhanced by progress rather than replaced.
Anyway back to the film which I have to say is worthy of Selleck's magnificent record of fabulous programmes and movies. Whether you are a western fan, like me, or not this is a really impressive film and one that it would be a shame to miss.

I put this on for my mother's benefit. But I found I also really enjoyed it. Reminiscent of latter chapters of James Michener's Centennial.

Well worth watching this one. Not a 'traditional' shoot-em-up western, but all the more realistic for that. Keeps the attention; good acting and dialogue.
