This is NOT the wonderful Tangerine Dream-soundtracked American version you're looking for!
Verified purchase
Although I absolutely love love LOVE this film, when I started this one on Prime I knew instantly it was the lame Goldsmith score from the original version. I refuse to watch it, as it has no soul without Tangerine Dream and Jon Anderson's voice and the scenes are all messed up in this version too. Dear Amazon, can we please have the REAL version please?

'Legend' with the Tangerine Dream soundtrack can be purchased on Blu-ray here:

I have personally purchased this Blu-ray version, and even though it's a US import, it is definitely region free, and it should play with all UK Blu-ray players. It features the film with the Tangerine Dream soundtrack AND the film with the Gerry Goldsmith soundtrack. The Blu-ray is titled 'Legend Ultimate Edition', so do not purchase any other version you see on the product page, and look for ASIN: B004QSQML8 in the product details to confirm you are choosing the correct item.

The Blu-ray features 'Legend' with the Tangerine Dream soundtrack in stereo only, it is listed as the 'Theatrical Version' on the cover and within the menu.

NOTE: The information above is an update to my original review, and you can read that review below, if you wish to do so.

This is a very much underrated movie, Ridley Scott really outdid himself with this production, a classic fantasy story about good verses evil, with a sprinkling of Fairies, Goblins, and Unicorns thrown into the mix. However, even people who absolutely love this movie, remain divided on which version is better, and from a UK viewer's perspective, and for the most part, that boils down to where, and when you watched it for the first time...

UK cinema goers in the mid 1980s would have seen the European release of the film, which had a musical score by Gerry Goldsmith, so the nostalgic memories for that version will always stay with them. The same can be said of the home media release from the era, the UK VHS version of the movie was also the European release with the Gerry Goldsmith score, so it stands to reason that anyone who enjoyed the film for the first time in that format, would also have a nostalgic preference for that version.

UK residents who hadn't seen (or even heard of) the movie, and who were enjoying the festivities of the Christmas 1989 period, had a different treat waiting for them, because on New Year's Eve, December 31st, 1989 at 4.55pm, BBC2 premiered the North American release of Legend, which featured a musical score by Tangerine Dream. This version of Legend is the one that UK TV viewers will have the nostalgic memories of, and with it being repeated randomly over the years, it will forever remain the best version for those viewers.

Currently, the European release of Legend is the version included with Prime.

Watchable though not entirely as I remember

I remember 4 things about this movie from seeing it years ago.

A random raspy voice shouting a name over and over.
Tim Curry hamming it up like the champ he is.
Mia Sara's character "going evil" yet still biting back against the darkness (though she was somewhat impish to begin with).
And a fever dream of music, glitter, insane scene lighting and fittingly fairytale visuals (close in, dusty/magical/fluffy, sparkling and "breathy").

The music doesn't hold up (turns out there's different soundtracks) but the rest is well worth a watch at least once.

There's even enough little people and children in the movie that (young) tom cruise looks like the tall person in most of the scenes :p.

I Want Tangerine Dream!

I'm sure the European version is just as good if that's what you grew up with, but I want what I grew up with. The beautiful Tangerine American version can't even be bought!

Not the best fantasy movie, but definitely worthy of a watch. Some good visuals and Tim Curry is always a great addition to anything.

I grew up on this film and just to quote one part at the end there is a conversation between hero and villain about light and dark but this is now removed if you're going to censor films then what's the point in paying for prime to view things
