This movie is quite deep despite the old traditional love triangle and vengeance related to it. However it touches another very old question - the question of faith and what it means to have God in your life. My answer after watching is none of the key people in the story really had faith and truth, despite clashing in dispute about who is in the right. With a possible exception of the policeman. The story made me think this: we are told not to lie and not to caveat and to forgive. The tragedy would not have happened if this advice was followed.
- if the wife of sterile man didn't cheat on him in order to have kids but instead talked to him openly and honestly
- if a man didn't commit adultery with another man's wife
- if a wife didn't cheat on her husband hiding in corners and hotel rooms
- if another man didn't get blinded by anger and jealousy and didn't choose to take revenge and force somebody to die

So what is the core of this film? All our philosophical disputes about God mean nothing if the don't follow simple truth - "as you wish others do to you so do to them". Without this everything else is just words.

I didn't feel the acting honest, even though they are good actors.
I didn't get it why Gavin fall in love with her. I know it was his mission to get her out from this place but still don't know how is this love started....
The police officer's life could have been shown parallel with Gavin's story not just drop on us like this. If I know this I would not watch it. The film isn't put together well.
From the religious side: it's only a good insight if you have no idea about how is religious life.

Great story line, very good acting,....Enough to make one think and debate about - "God" "Heaven" "Hell" "Love" "Betrayal" "Commitment" "Hate" "Anger" the list is endless.....

The most Intense fight a human will EVER have is between the person they are, and the person they are capable of becoming.

climbing high to see the depths of the soul

"The Ledge" is a philosophical thriller that starts with a man climbing to the top of a building clearly intending to jump. A police officer is assigned to talk him down and the conversation that follows - the core of the film in flashback - explores questions of morality, courage and the meaning of life without belief in God. Thus one reason I like this film is that is speaks for me.

Importantly other perspectives are offered and I think given fair treatment. The only real issue I have is that the evangelical never came across as likeable. True he was censorious and intrusive over homosexuality and that I think was fair and accurate. But all evangelicals I have known have been ordinary, likeable people despite their belief system. So I am struck by the thought, that the evangelical that this character was modeled on, was a younger, more religious me.

Poor story line

Boring. Themes are 1) we shouldnt believe in God and its ok to commit adultery because theres probably a good reason behind it - really basic and boring.

Terrible script. I can't imagine how someone bought into this script and thought it would be a good idea to waste actual film on it, don't waste your time.
Awful. Beyond awful.

Yes, had me hooked and on the edge of my seat.....it works on a number of levels (no pun intended!) and is very well-acted by everybody.....there are an awful lot of 'issues' packed into the running time and, perhaps, at least one of these is an issue too far but, overall, it builds effectively and I did get to care for at least 3 or 4 of the characters as it developed. Catch it if you can!
