Amazing donnie yen

This film was outstanding , after I sat down with a cup of tea and a biscuit , five minutes into it I was only concentrating on only the film, so much so my phone made me jump.
Where do I start, Donnie Yen as always had a very good role, his technique is perfected! The fight scenes with Donnie were spectacular. The story line I would give an 8/10 and for a while I thought I had the story line figured and then there was a twist. Everybody did well in character.
I would recommend this film to anyone who loves a great action film with donnie yen and great fight scenes

An homage to the golden age of Hong Kong action cinema, featuring a flimsy plot that provides a minimal excuse for a series of exciting fights and stunts, and some bit parts for a number of actors, producers and directors from the industry. Donnie Yen shines as a martial arts master helping the police to track down a serial killer who is trying to prove he is number one in the martial arts world by killing the masters of various disciplines using their own techniques. One for the fans.

Martial movie elegy... It works.
Verified purchase
As may be apparent from the title, this film is a studied elegy in homage of the skilled martial artists that have made classic kung-fu films over the years. It makes use of the tropes and characters from these films in a faithful eulogy...

The film is littered with the actors and movers from these films through the ages, which makes it a rich mix, and I enjoyed the film in general, but unlike a number of Donnie Yen's recent films (IpMan and Wuxia), this film doesn't extend the medium with developed characters or particularly interesting story. That said, the fight scenes are usual Donnie choreography good and there is a lot of fun to be had and the obvious love of the material is contagious.

dunno why everyone hating on this (spoiler)

I thought this had its merits and was a good old fashioned martial arts action cop thingy. Good fighting scenes and I liked the actor that played the bad guy and it all had a nice happy ending. Well shot and good fun. Nothing too serious and not a masterpiece but definitely above average even if only just. Good fun.

Disappointing considering I know what Donnie Yen is capable of

One of those films where all the cast worked hard but somehow it just did not seem to come together. Story was not great to start and the villain was just pathetic. No wonder Donnie Yen struggled with this. I have known Donnie Yen for many years and was my privilege to photograph him together with Bey Logan who appeared briefly in this film. Not one of Donnie Yen's best but the guy has to earn money to progress.

Superb fight scenes & a decent story line.

I wasnt sure what to expect from this movie as I had read nothing about it but I like the other Donnie Yen films I have seen. No spoilers from me, I will just say if you like martial arts films with a decent story line and great fight scenes you will not be disapointed by this movie.

Realistic martial arts performance that worth watching
Verified purchase
Martial arts scenes in the movie are amazing, all very realistic, except maybe one with swords. The story fits well and actor play is excellent.

Whilst I know people have mixed feeling about 'the birth of dragon', in my opinion it is a good movie and this movie is at that movie quality.

Catch this killer
Verified purchase
Welcome return to form for Donnie after some questionable efforts. This movie was more a return to the vintage Shaw releases where our killer adopts different styles, updated to modern day. Here Donnie Yen is released from prison to track him down, but it soon becomes clear he has his own agenda. The fights are well choreographed, and the film itself is quite pacey. Certainly not his best, but far above most current releases.
