Customer reviews
Customer Reviews, including Product Star Ratings, help customers to learn more about the product and decide whether it is the right product for them.
To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyses reviews to verify trustworthiness.

Its a really nice e-reader, the screen offers much higher contrast than other devices, I love the buttons which have sadly become a premium, and despite being made of plastic it still feels really substantial and not cheap. Its a little bit bigger and thicker than Kindles, which I imagine will only be enhanced with a case added but it's not a huge deal.
It turns out the only thing I can't get on with is the operating system. Whilst my Kindle library can be side loaded onto the device, it means losing a lot of funtionality and not being able to use Amazon's cloud. There's a lot of perks I love about getting books actually on to my Kindle that I didn't appreciate until I tried using this. Also to be honest I'm not sure how I feel about buying books from the Kobo store and locking myself in to yet another ecosystem that I might want to change again further down the road. Sometimes it's best to just stick to what you already know.
If you're not in the Kindle ecosystem though then I can't recommend this device enough.
I spent hours researching which ereader to get for what I needed, but eventually settled on this one. It has generous storage for the price (I literally have thousands of PDFs) and was bigger than a phone but not too big so as to feel like I am carrying another tablet or laptop. (I was incidentally advised by a colleague to just use a tablet to read PDFs on, but I find my Samsung Galaxy Tab S3 is too heavy to sustain long reading periods, plus the screen can be uncomfortable on the eyes after a while and is difficult to see in sunlight.)
I didn't need anything too complicated. However, the functionality of this ereader is a complete joke. When transferring PDFs from my laptop to the reader, my nicely titled and sorted files (by author surname, publication year, title) become completely jumbled. Many lose their titles, because the titles that appear on Kobo are drawn from the original metadata of the PDF when it was created, which is often some garbled combination of text and numbers that is probably logical to the publisher but to no-one else. You cannot change the name, either on the ereader itself or on the original file on the laptop (these PDFs are not protected by a DMP, so this is not the problem). So you are left with a load of files titled in a way that gives you no clue about either the author or the content. (Note: you can transfer your books/files directly by dragging them into the Kobo folder from the folder on your laptop, or from Adobe Digital Editions. Both produces the same result with the titles/metadata, and it's shocking that such a big, successful company like Adobe cannot have a function in DE that allows you to edit file titles - which would likely have resolved the issue.)
If you then want to sort your files (I sort mine by subject or theme to easily find what text I want), you can create what is called a 'Collection'. I did this with the first lot of PDFs I imported. Put them into a Collection, then reconnected to my laptop to import another set of files, which I was intending to put into another Collection. But when I disconnected again and go into the Kobo to sort the new files, the first Collection shows as having nothing in it. Somehow those 364 files fell out of the Collection and became jumbled with the new files. And they are, of course, not easy to discern because of the aforementioned issue with titles. Hours wasted trying to sort these problems.
This device is like one of those early electronic diaries of the 1990s: clunky to use, often unresponsive and can't deal with any kind of personalisation. In fact, a 90s electronic diary would win on the latter point. A complete waste of money.
Anyway, I digress, Kobo has always had a decent collection of ereaders and the libra 2 is one of the better ones in my opinion. It has all the features you need in an ereader. Wide compatibility across formats (If using good software, kobo software is not the best), ergonomic design with hardware page turning buttons, USB C for reasonably quick charging and data transfer, and if you are adventurous you can enable the beta features and have a working web browser and built in word games. The dictionary support is across multiple languages with good look ups. The screen adjustment and night mode is good with quite a bit of adjustability. There is a good support community behind them as well if there are any problems. The only problem I had was that I read some Japanese books and the Hiragana and Katakana did not display, a quick search on the forums showed that a quick change to the right font solve the issue.
The only thing I dislike is the store and the software which supports nothing but kobo books from the store. As long as you look at alternative software or just copy books from the computer to the ereader it is fine. I wish they would sort that out but it is standard across the industry now sadly.
