Seemed like a good film good cast and story does not seem bad. However as a brown person, I am a little concerned that it is not 1920 and they are using black face paint for the father of the Muslim family. Ironically they got a real Arab (or seem to have got a real Arab) to play the son.

Honestly I know its a thing in movies now to make Muslims the bad guys,as it was for Russian's when the American did not like them. But really could you not find an Arab actor who would agree to play the part of the father who wants to kill the SAS soldier.

However if this does not offend you then I think you should find it entertaining as Jason Sttham, Robert De Niro and Clive Owen are all really quite good in the film and other than my angst towards the black face paint its not too bad. That's why it got two stars rather than 3

A masterpiece that truly earns its star!
Verified purchase
This film is a masterpiece you cannot miss for so many reasons. Here are just a few:
If you are studying how to cram as many clichés as possible into the length of a feature film, watch and learn how the professionals do it. It's awesome!
If instead your interest lies with historic gender stereotypes from long before you were born, the only two females in the entire film make wonderful examples.
Even if you are just trying to understand how to best offend non-white people without making too much of an effort, this instructional video has you completely covered.
Of course, this film is also great for you if you just like watching people getting shot at. All the characters in this film are sofficiently developed for geting whacked in all manner of ways. Except for the main character and his damsel, but because they survive the film anyway, they aren't that important for the plot.
But this film really shines when you are looking for something to watch on a long-haul flight and find yourself too drunk and jetlagged to follow the Teletubbies episode on the family channel. If this happens to you, this gem of a film has all the entertainment you need. And if the film isn't over when your plane lands, you can still safely stow your video screen without missing out.

It is for all those reasons that I award this film one, full yellow Amazon star!
(Also, Amazon has a minimum one-star policy in place)

It's a Jason Statham film you know what you're getting

Unusually for Statham there isn't that scene where he takes his clothes off and swims, but apart from that it's pretty much what you'd expect. It's one of his better films, but it's formulaic as per usual. Robert de Niro just doesn't get enough screen time to make a difference. You cannot figure out why Clive Owen gives a toss. Has he really got nothing else to do? Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje really stinks in his role. He's not menacing. or interesting or even slimy. He did the film solely for a pay check and it shows. The Arabs are not menacing, interesting or realistic. They're bored as well. The trope of the girlfriend back in the bush who's known him since childhood and can overlook his past made me yawn. Tired or what? There just isn't enough tension and you really don't care if Statham lives or dies because even Jason is bored. This is a string vest of a film - rightfully a 6.8. Not terrible but could have been far better with a tightening of the tension and a bit more commitment from the actors. A simple device to make it more gritty would have improved it immensely - like the gf being killed to give Statham the motivation to go all Rambo. Him getting to ride off into the sunset with the girl is just too twee and yet standard Statham fare.

Good Action Film

I don't understand what all the moaning in the comments is about. It's an action film, get over it! And it's a good action film at that with actors we all like...or if you don't then why have you waisted your time? Also, someone said that the film portraits the Arabs as the bad guys. Clearly, you have missed the seen with Her Majesty's agent holding the gun and delivering the news to poor Statham and Owen that it's all about the oil! Anyway, if you like a good action film, then this is one. Period.

Fast Moving Action Thriller
Verified purchase
I really like Statham as an actor but he often wastes his acting talent. This is a high octane edge-of-your-seat action thriller that entertains throughout, not least because of the incredible stunt scenes. A little too long! Statham has made better films like Parker, Blitz and The Mechanic. I feel Staham comes to the fore in slightly slower moving films in the thriller genre. He is a great actor and you always route for him! Really want to see him in a slightly different role, perhaps a period drama, like Sean Bean has explored.

Solid core action!

Jason Statham never fails to impress. Great action sequences & fast paced. Clive Owen looks a little 'out of place' but a great fight scene between him & Statham. De Niro has what amounts to a 'bit role' but great to watch never the less. Overall I would say a great film...well worth a watch.

80's set Actioner
Verified purchase
Good action movie. Jason Statham is in top form in his usual assassin role, with a bit more character development than the Transporter movies. He has an attractive girl friend and more dialogue. It's set in 1980 which gives it a retro feel, like I remember from The Professionals, with some nice car chases with classic Jags and Ford Cortina's. Wow my dad had one of those!

I was slightly uneasy about the plot to kill former SAS soldiers, which supposedly comes from a book, and the story may or may not be true.

It's probably best to not take it too seriously though, and just enjoy it for what it is, a pretty decent action movie, with some great fight sequences.

As well as Stath, Clive Owen gives a polished performance, and De Niro does actually act, and adds his presence to the Movie.
