2.0 out of 5 stars I'm done with Keen footwear
By Chromium Domium on 15 May 2019
I've owned various Keen boots over the years and they've all failed for similar reasons. So, why did I end up buying another pair? Two answers to that.

1. They have been the most comfy brand ever with little to no break in period required which, in hindsight, might be the problem.

2. Up until this pair, I kept buying higher up the product chain hoping for better quality and longevity.

I decided this time I'd buy the lower, slightly cheaper model, and use them for light dog walking duties on mostly dry, none muddy days. For bad weather I wear wellies or wide fit boots of another brand. My tactic hasn't worked. I don't baby my boots, but I do clean and nourish them with Nikwax products regularly and also let them dry naturally.

As can be seen from the pictures, in eight months (really only four or five of actual use in mostly dry conditons) they have started to fall apart. Oh well, I sort of knew they would, but perhaps not this quick!

In my opinion the construction is cheap and the materials are not good enough. My other non-Keen boots which cost only about £50 more than these, but not so of the Keen Durands, that also fell apart, are still in excellent condition after a couple of years heavy use; same care level but used in all weathers and through mud and other rough terrain.

It's not acceptable that, in this short time, the soles should start splitting away at the rand. A rand which is obviously very thin and of shoddy quality. Also, a common complaint with Keen's, the lugs on the soles seem to make a bid for freedom sometimes too.

I've decided not to send them back, but to try and wear them out over the summer in the hope that the soles wear out before the tops disintegrate. I understand why people might choose to buy Keen boots, but the longest any pair I've owned have lasted, before being not fit for purpose is about fourteen months. If you need the comfort and can get them cheap in a sale and are prepared for them to disintegrate in less than a year then that's your choice.

This will, however, mark a turning point whereby I vow never to by another Keen product.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not very durable
By Notts reviewer on 22 January 2020
Second pair of Keen Targhee. Sole on the first pair wore out after a matter of months (heavy use - walking the dog and at work). As I'd struggled to find a comfortable pair of boots, I bought another pair. Fit is wider at the toe than many boots so they fit me better; I measure an 8.5 and these in a 9 fit well. Photos taken after 6 months general use (no hiking, better treated than first pair) - once they got wet the leather on one boot went like tissue paper and disintegrated. I've continued to use them for heavier use (dog walk) and after another couple of months the soles are de-laminating.

5.0 out of 5 stars Comfortable and waterproof
By hiker on 23 June 2020
I wanted a pair of everyday lightweight boots for summer dog walking, they had to be waterproof, comfortable and modestly priced these ticked all the boxes. Have worn them for two weeks they fit like glove and the heel grip system works, they have mid size toe box, measurements available on Keen website.Have walked through long wet grass and hosed them off to clean them, no sign of water penetration so far. They look robust and the smooth Nubuck looks good after applying G-wax. Probably not the most popular colour hence a good price but who cares when they are wet and muddy!

1.0 out of 5 stars They started to fall apart within 7 months of not very intensive wear
By Amazon Customer on 24 November 2019
They were comfortable after a couple of weeks of use and I appreciated the wide toe box and true to size fit....BUT, they started to fall apart after 7 months of use, the material at the join between the insole and the midsole just started to disintegrate. Very disappointing as previous KEEN boots have lasted 2 or more years. The quality of of KEEN stuff is lower than it used to be in my opinion. I would not recommend them. Returned to vendor and awaiting a refund.
