Magical!
Almost 30 years ago, but like all gems it does not age.
It is fantastic to see John Hurt here in his prime effortlessly spinning yarns and giving a masterclass in acting as always.
The ensemble cast also has many great and well know English actors in their youth.
This is fantastic stuff for the young and the old alike.

Absolutely enchanting
I'd quite forgotten about this show, and when I saw it on Amazon Prime all those memories of watching it as a kid flooded back. And it is even better than I remembered. This is a stunning show. From the writing, the costumes, the puppets to the gorgeously poetic and whimsical language of the Storyteller himself. It's a feast for the eyes and soul! Absolutely great stuff, right up there with the best TV I've ever watched.

Awesome!
I loved this as a child and bought it on dvd a few years back so I could watch it with my son too. He loves it just as much as I do :-) John Hurt is fantastic at telling the stories and I would recommend this series to anyone whether you are 5 or 105! Get tucked up on the sofa together and watch something awesome!

cracking stories
The actor I was most shocked about was Sean Bean. He was young but past the age of acne had skin as smooth as a babies'. So what happened to make his skin so bad. I hope it wasn't a bad life. Surprising to see so many artists. The stories were great. The costumes and puppeteering were amasing as usual. Well worth watching and letting children see. For a new generation to follow.

Graphics are very outdated but the stories are still magical
I remember watching this show back in the 90s and use to love it. I just found it today on amazon and got my kids 11 & 6 to watch it and they were hooked. I am only showing them one episode per night as a night time story but it shows that if the story is good, the kids will watch even a show with very dated graphic and effects.

Only watch if you have the money for plenty of therapy
I had this series on VHS as a child and have never forgiven my mother for allowing me to watch it. My most vivid nightmares stem from the Hans My Hedgehog episode (the original text for which is even more harrowing than this disturbing depiction), and Sapsorrow has always haunted me. Despite this, I'm so happy I can further traumatized myself by watching them as an adult.
