Jesse Stone is a good flawed character ..

We are already fans of the Jesse Stone movies. This is another well made film keeping that slightly darker edge to it all thanks to good acting, cinematography & music.
If you’re looking for an upbeat happy sunny detective - this isn’t it!! J Stone is a man of few words but he is methodical, stubborn, brooding & loves his whisky ... but always gets things done despite everything often being ‘against’ him & his small team. There are quirky exchanges which might only make sense if you have followed all of the films in order. Good viewing.

Let's hope he joins AA very soon.

This series of films was extremely erratic. The first were fine, notably those with Viola Davis. I have read the Jesse Stone novels and although Tom Selleck is a favourite of mine he wasn't right for the character. This last one seemed to be on a very tight budget with the main characters seen extremely briefly and endless shots of Jesse sitting in his chair drinking which was extremely boring. The plot wasn't too hot either.

Sellek in a different light

I was never a Selleck fan, but this series of films changed that.

Good ones and not quite as good in the 9 films, see Wiki if you want to cherry pick. I bought the entire set. Some of them have been on TV over here several times, but it'll be nice to know they're on the shelf when Channel 5 gets tired of airing them.

Nice to know Americans can do something a bit classier every once in a while. If they made less big city / bad ass / rogue / rookie / lawyery crap and more like this then I'd probably gravitate towards it rather be repulsed by it.

Welcome back, Jesse!

I was delighted to see Jesse Stone again! This new episode picks up nicely, although Jesse is older if not wiser. All the classic trademarks are there, together with many familiar characters. I always enjoy Tom Selleck's acting and hope he produces more Jesse episodes. I must, of course, mention the passing of Reggie. His replacement does not equal his acting skills but it was good to see Jesse with a dog again.

in my humble opinion tom selleck doesn't make a bad film or TV series
basic profile
Jesse stone is fired from a major American city police force due to being
drunk on the job, he applies and gets the position of police chief in a tiny town
called PARADISE with a population of just under 1000, he has a staff of 3-4
and mostly they deal with small crimes. Obviously he's over qualified for the job
but gets to grips with it, his drinking is his demon though he doesn't drink on the job he does in the home, also every day he talks to his ex wife jenny on the phone, he has numerous
relationships one ends in tragedy

a great riveting tv movies

More Paradise Murder -But check region compatibility!

I make this the 9th Jesse Stone movie. My guess is that if you like any of the others, you'll like this. "Magnum" is as impassive as ever. The music as evocative, the cinematography as picturesque and the editing as languorous. The plot is as understandable as usual. However, some of the usual characters are missing or barely in evidence -but he does get a new dog!
Make sure you can play the region you buy though! I bought the region 1, which my machine plays as well as Europe's region 2.

Jesse Stone a beacon of light in the drudgery of modern TV Drama

What more can you say about the Jesse Stone video series other than lets please have another Tom.
We have avidly collected the entire set and watch them over and over never tiring of them.

We love the laid back pace and great characters . The Paradise location and community is timeless, like a place that you could imagine settling one day when you've had enough of the rat race.

Whenever we cannot decide which video to watch from our extensive video collection, we invariably end up watching a Jesse Stone.

We have watched all of the previous Jesse Stone films, and while their content has fluctuated from average to really great, this one was dire. So slow, it finished while I was still waiting for it to start.
