5.0 out of 5 starsAwesome - Highly Recommended if you love Sci-Fi!
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 23 December 2019
I've followed this project from the early crowdfunding days when it was called 'Kaleidoscope Man' and am thrilled to see it completed. Whilst it may not (quite) have the slickness of your ten-a-penny Hollywood 'blockbuster' with a predictable ending we've become so used to seeing, 'Invasion Planet Earth' is an original and ambitious concept brilliantly realised by a dedicated Independent film-maker (Simon Cox). If I have to compare it but without giving too much away, I'd say it's better than the remake of 'The Day The Earth Stood Still', for all that movie's big budget & A-List cast. Very, very impressed by the end result, and happy to purchase and recommend it to anyone who loves science-fiction. And as an aside to aspiring Indie filmmakers - never give up your dreams!! Simon didn't and this is the result. Brilliant!

3.0 out of 5 starsGood and bad
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 24 February 2020
An independent film, made by scraping funds together over many years and with crowdfunder support, it tries so hard to be spectacular and in some ways it achieves that.

The cgi work must have taken a long time to pull together and is effective but no way has there been sufficient spent on it to make it look as good as possible. But this is indie film and what is delivered is still more adventurous and far reaching than anything else I’ve seen. It’s not great in parts, but plenty of credit to Simon for trying.

In parts the acting is very stilted. A problem of filming over time or with disjointed scenes. The crowd scenes were good with plenty of action in place. A huge story canvas with an interesting twist in the tale.

This was a film that I could have given up on but I didn’t. I didn’t because that would be disrespectful to the filmmaker who has tried, and to an extent succeeded, to give a Hollywood standard sci-fi film with a background of “no money” filmmaking.

Watch it with an open mind. It’s not the best film you’ll ever see, certainly no “Star Wars”, but it certainly above average and filled with dedication and purpose.

4.0 out of 5 stars I have never seen a film like it.................

I'm afraid I can only give four stars, as I found some of it a little stilted and disjointed in places. However, the SFX were really good for a low budget film. I really liked the premice of the story though, as I watched I had a few different theories going round my head, so was actually pleased at the outcome. I don't want to say too much as I don't believe in giving spoilers (sweetie ;) ), so I'll just say that it is worth watching. It's not the kind of thing I'd usually watch, and it takes A LOT to hold my attention, but I did watch until the end.

I did keep getting distracted though, as I live near some of the places it was filmed in, so I kept trying to figure out exactly where the scenes were set. It's mainly filmed in Birmingham, but there are other Midlands places in it too.

Overall, it's a good film, considering the low budget.

4.0 out of 5 stars Invasion Humanity at its epic ?

Compliments to Director Simon Cox, for his vision and managing to achieve it all be under strained budgets.

Its not the most inspirational imaginary interpretation of sc-fi invasion earth but its his vision and as such try and appreciate it from a low budget Indie film perspective. Its a gem in its own ranking and no doubt shall acquire a ranking worthy of his followers in time.

What appears as an invasion needs evaluation and consideration at the plot develops. CGI isn't the best and perhaps yer follow up should it happen aught to be a development.

The characters are regular folk, a dashing Dr and his equally attractive wife and his distant brother, a relationship rekindelded at the end of the day .

A few twistsz and turns along the way but an enjoyable experience.

THIS IS AN UNUSUAL FILM FOR ITS GENRE. I OBVIOUSLY DON'T WANT TO SPOIL THE STORY-LINE FOR ANYONE THINKING OF WATCHING THIS FILM SO DON'T GO THINKING " OH NO! NOT ANOTHER ALIEN ATTACK FILM !" THOUGH YOU COULD'N'T BE BLAMED FOR THINKING IT. TOWARDS THE END THE TRUTH OF WHY ALIENS ARE HERE WILL MAKE YOU WONDER, WHY ? SO GRAB YOUR MUNCHIES AND DRINKS SIT COMFORTABLY & BE PATIENT YOU WILL ENJOY THIS FILM. IF YOU PUFF YOU'LL ENJOY IT MORE ! I GAVE IT 5 STARS BECAUSE IT HELD MY ATTENTION EVEN WITH FLASHBACKS. Invasion Planet Earth IS VOID OF KNOWN BIG STARS ( EXCEPT 4 TOYAH WILCOX ) BUT THEY ALL DO A GREAT JOB. THERE ARE NO AMERICANS THAT I RECALL,A BONUS I FEEL.IF YOU LOVE OR JUST LIKE SCI-FI YOU MAY OR MAY NOT LIKE ..............INVASION PLANET EARTH ...........BUT GIVE IT A GO..

5.0 out of 5 stars British Indie Sci-fi feature achievement.
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 19 October 2020

I have given this a 5-star rating because it’s very easy to forget that this is a British indie film. Not a Hollywood blockbuster with million of dollars behind it.

I have followed and supported Simon Cox since the beginning of making this epic film when it was originally titled Kaleidoscope Man.
If you’ve never tried to make a film before, you will not appreciate the blood, sweat and tears that goes into this and trying to raise finance. The commitment and dedication that Simon and his team have put into making this film is commendable. For an indie sci-fi, their effort and achievement is remarkable because they did what they set out to do. Against everything against them , they have completed an independent feature sci-fi movie!

Now from a viewers/ audience point of view, there are a few things that has contributed to the overall quality of the film which is a shame because I believe these could have been avoided. Mostly, it comes down to sound at the beginning although this did improve, and the script, dialogue and the story structure. In places the film was a little confusing and dis-jointed but this could have also been caused through the editing process. In other places it was a bit bonkers which actually I enjoyed because it made it entertaining and different. I like bonkers!

The spaceship was amazing!

It’s not going to be everyone’s ‘cup of tea’ but if this is what Simon can achieve on a low-budget indie film, just think what he could achieve with a top script and a big budget! Well done, Simon.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good film, with some interesting twists
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 31 May 2022

This is an independent film, so is not as "slick" as the Hollywood blockbusters we are so used to. That said, it is an excellent film with a good twist at the end which is very relevant to our time. The middle of the film is a tad confusing, until you realise what is going on - so persevere. It is well worth the time taken. Some reviewers have stated they found the dialogue stilted at times. I did not find that - certainly not as much as BBC productions from the 1980's. Simon Cox has done an excellent job at seeing his vision completed, and I can thoroughly recommend this film, especially if you enjoy SciFi in the genre of Asimov's short stories.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great British Indie SciFi Romp!

Great film and impressive effects for a low budget indie film, loved the space craft, and thought the off world scenes and FX were beautiful. Some great location shooting, the black beach was stunning. A really good story, a tiny bit confusing in some places, but easy enough to follow the rest. It had some fun humor, and characters that I grew to care about. We all found the background music too loud and felt that it let the excellent production down. Overall though, this really is a very good home grown independent scifi film. Our whole family really enjoyed it. Give it a watch and make up your own mind. Needs subtitles too, one of our family is deaf and couldn't enjoy it with us.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Blast on Earth and time
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 16 March 2021

Thoroughly Enjoyable! I watched this with my 18year old son and he loved it too. The description says it's inspired by sci-fi shows of the 70's and 80's and if you go into this film realising that it will be much more approachable. Psycadelic in places and retro in others. The dialogue and characters build and improve as the story unfolds and before long you are gripped trying to work out what is real and what is in whose head. The visuals and soundtrack are filled with Easter Eggs and references to old classic shows and films. Brilliant work for a Kickstarter based indie film that stands up to the big boys in terms of story and scope. THe effects are used to enhance the stylised retro feel. Well worth a watch for any sci-fi and 80s tv fan.

4.0 out of 5 stars What an EPIC micro-budget adventure...

Considering the micro-budget, this film is highly ambitious and I commend all involved. Being English myself, it's great to see an alien invasion occurring this side of the pond (along with other countries), and if only one could have the budget like that of Hollywood then this film would have soared. The concept is brilliant. It's a great watch, and I'm looking forward to seeing more from the ambitious Simon Cox which, in whom, oversaw his baby from concept to completion (nearly 20-years!)......

4.0 out of 5 stars Great fun for a low budget

It's a bit of a shame really because its a good story and a good script but its the sort of film that demanded a budget of millions and it really suffers from the effects. Don't get me wrong they have done a sterling job given the budget and its 6 years of shooting and nigh on 20 year gestation but, it means that some of the effects really are not very good at all. I've given it 4 stars mainly because of the ambition, and it's worth a watch, as long as you suspend your disbelief and go in not expecting something like Independence day. They also should have stuck with the more interesting title of Kaleiescope Man and not the generic one it has. I hope it made some money for them now its on Amazon I really do.
