Mindblowing Sets and Action Scenes, Confusing Storyline
Verified purchase
Mindblowing sets and action scenes, imaginative CGI, a stellar cast by any standard - yes, there is much to like here. But despite repeated viewing I have yet to fully grasp all the ideas in the plot of the film. As far as I'm concerned, this is one film that could do with a director's commentary. In the hope of getting one I bought the Two DVD Special Edition. But I was disappointed: Unfortunately there is none.

There are numerous and quite lengthy extra features, none of which I found particularly helpful or even terribly interesting. For those who want to know what you get for your money, here's the list:
--- Dreams: Cinema of the Subconscious - Can the Dream World Be a Fully Functional Parallel Reality? Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Leading Scientists Take You to the Cutting Edge of Dream Research
--- Inception: The Cobol Job - Comic Prologue in Full Animmation and Motion: See the Events That Led to the beginning of the Movie
--- 5.1 Soundtrack Selections from Hans Zimmer's Versatile Score
--- Conceptual Art, Promotional Art and Trailer/TV Spot Galleries

Watch it, watch it again, and again. One of the great sci-fi/thriller crossovers.

OK, so I have now watched this movie three times and still can't find a good enough reason to dock a single star. It's just a great film, tense narrative, good acting and with a whiff of originality missing from most recent Hollywood output.

Spectacular and thought-provoking

A visual treat, Inception also provides much food for thought. While what is happening is quite clear (if you are paying attention), the film deliberately does not tie every loose end up. In other words, the audience is not talked down to.

Action fans will enjoy the fight in a hotel corridor where up, down and sideways change from moment to moment, and the 007-tribute snow mountain battle (clearly inspired by Christopher Nolan's favourite Bond film, OHMSS).

Highly recommended.

Lives up to the hype

So glad I finally put aside time to watch this film; it was a real treat. The plot is interesting without being convoluted, but leaves plenty to be chewed over during and afterwards. The characters are all a joy, and along with intense sequences there are a number of intimate and emotional moments throughout. It's stunning to watch, with beautiful scenery and plenty of awe-inspiring visual effects, especially surrounding gravity and slow-motion. You're given time to appreciate things, and the action sequences aren't horribly chopping and shaky like a lot of other films. "Catharsis" is a theme that is established throughout, and that's what this film delivers - it feels like it has scratched an itch I didn't even realise was there.

Highly recommended!

Stylish and thoughtful movie with great music

You can't afford to be dreaming whilst while watching this! It's a great movie with thought provoking ideas, a tight plot, lots of action and good acting, with plenty of style to boot. The only thing that crossed my mind to criticise it is that the main plot idea involves the team trying to plant an idea into the mind of an executive of a major international company, with the intention that he will split the company up, and this will allow a competitor (who has set the team on) to gain market dominance. However there is no development of this story, and so by the end of the film I found that I didn't give a stuff if they were successful or not; Wouldn't it have been better if the story was that they were trying to save someone's life, or some other similar magnanimous gesture? However, I think the side story of Dom Cobb's wife actually takes precedence over the "main" plot and this carries the film along quite nicely to it's satisfactory but slightly ambiguous ending.

I came out of the cinema exhausted.

This is easily one of my favourite movies of all time, and definitely my favourite in the last 19 adult years. The feeling I had when exiting the cinema is one I'll never forget. I was exhausted, never have I had my head expanded like this watching a film. Truly masterful in the execution of writing and directing something so complex. It's hard enough directing a straight forward story, but to execute with such intricacy makes Christopher Nolan one of the greatest directors of all time.

This is my favourite movie of all time.

This is my favourite movie of all time. I've watched it countless times and was delighted to see it available on Amazon Prime so I could watch it again. It has a stellar cast and the soundtrack is breathtaking. It's so well written, with an intricate but expertly woven story. The special effects are amazing and was not computerised like many movies these days. Real rotating sets were built offering a dream-like quality. You cannot go wrong with this movie. Watch it and be entertained.

Visionary Masterpiece
Verified purchase
Christopher Nolan breaks the boundaries of story telling with this multi-layered extraordinary visionary masterpiece.
A complex and compelling ride through a world created by Nolan, in which we follow the story of Leo DiCaprio's character Cobb, as he battles through an impossible mission in which in return clears his criminal record and uniting with children. Leo is supported with A-List performances from the likes of Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Tom Hardy, Cillian Murphy and Ellen Page.
A must watch, one of those ground-breaking films that don't come along too often.
