I Trapped the Devil

4.81 h 23 min201915
FrightFest Presents. When Matt (You're Next icon AJ Bowen) and Karen (Southbound's Susan Burke) visit his estranged brother Steve (Scott Poythress) to celebrate Christmas, they are greeted with a horrifying surprise. Steve has trapped a man in his basement. Someone he believes to be none other than the devil himself. A clever and claustrophobic horror thriller that will keep you guessing.

Moody, dark and mysterious

This was on my "one to watch out for" list, so I was looking forward to it. The look and sound of the film I found appealing, nice colours and textures, the house stuck in a perpetual Christmas with decorations contrasted well with the desperate ramshackle state of the rest of it. The acting I found - functional, perhaps a little clichéd, I lost count the amount of times a state of tension was illustrated by reaching for a whiskey bottle (I would have been off my face by the end of the film). Definitely not a blood and guts film, for me it was in part making a connection between grief and trying to make sense of a senseless act. The end possibly not satisfying, perhaps in time with it rattling around my head I may warm to it, but for now it was a little bit of a whimper then a bang. Worth watching, I wouldn't be compelled to watch it again though.

Slow but good!

Ok so this is a very slow burning film.
It’s worth the watch.
The devil voice is really well done and the last 5mins are great.
I know that sounds like a bad thing for a film but not necessarily.
The acting is good throughout and I like the storyline.
Not my favourite horror but still worth watching.

Stick with it.

OK so this starts deliberately quite slow. It is so worth sticking it out though, it is quietly scary. It's not spelt out for you. It leaves you with questions. It's very creepy. I would recommend it for sure.

Took its time, but that's a good thing.

Took it's time, but that's a good thing. Let you wonder if the guy was nuts or actually telling the truth that he had somehow 'captured' the devil. Had it been rushed it wouldn't have had half the gravitas. I like movies that start with an incredulous claim and let's you watch how the people who hear of it, deal with it.

Nothing made me look up from clipping my toenails

Other than to skip 15 minutes if droll. Also when I did look up I couldn't see anything it was all shot so dark, I may as well have had my head in a gas oven.

I lasted 20 minutes and that included falling asleep twice.

The producers must have paid the general public to watch it.

OK but slow and disappointing.

Far too slow with a build up that I found disappointing. You stick with it but get a whimper not a bang.
