This is the movie you want to watch when you feel a bit fed up and need a smile. It's my favourite feelgood movie. However..... Jack Black (Miles) is not comfortable in a non-hyper role and Kate Winslet (Iris) has a bucketload more chemistry with Eli Wallach (Arthur) than with him, As well as the many cringy scenes, the considerable skills of Jude Law (Graham) and Cameron Diaz (Amanda) are not challenged either. So why is this film so watchable? Well, apart from gorgeous rural England winter scenes and the escape from anything real, the inspired soundtrack holds the whole thing together - especially since the melodies composed by Miles are a feature of the story. This time I pay attention to the opening titles, and find that the music is by none other than Hans Zimmer. Yes, of Dunkirk, Interstellar, Inception, Batman movies, Bladerunner 2049, amongst my absolute favourite soundtracks. And I realise I watch the whole movie for the music played in the almost final scene when Amanda...well, no spoilers!

A crushing disappointment. Slack, mushy - woefully poor

First off, I like all four principals. Each actor has a solid body of impressive work behind them. And Nancy Meyers - the director of "The Intern" - solid ground and worth a watch, surely?
But no. Right from the start, there are multiple things wrong - for me, for me - with this movie. I tried to give it a fair chance, but simply had to walk away at halftime or thereabouts, for the sake of my blood pressure, or the furniture, or something.
Peter Bradshaw's review helped me through the next few days.

A warm and toasty type of movie but Ben Stiller would've been better with Kate Winslet

Two Women are getting over a relationship break up, Cameron Diaz is splitting up with her man, and Kate Winslet is trying to get over love rat wonderfully played by Sewell. The two women finally met online on a house exchange and agreed to go transatlantic and met not only their destinies but made improvements into the lives of people they get introduced to bringing in real life magic.
Great movie, didn't expect much for not watching romcoms often, but I enjoyed this one. Beautiful shots from Los Angeles and Surrey county in England having lived in Surrey once for several years but only the London borough part which is not the same as the countryside. Not a big fan of Cameron but she did a likable character portrayal. Kate is amazing, Eli Wallach is fantastic as the face of golden era of Hollywood as a movie writer. Jack Black is a of a let down and acts the same as he did in school of rock, and there wasn't much of a chemistry between Kate and Jack as there was with Cameron and Jude Law. Maybe Ben Stiller would be better with Kate Winslet because he looks super Hollywood looking and funny in a goofy way. However, the movie still gives a good vibe. The Dialogue gets your head in a spin with lovers getting into a rut but is not too bad. Give this one a go!

Brilliant film, have watched many times before - have on DVD but purchased to watch on TV/iPad.

Great from start to finish albeit with a tad too corny last scene but the actors have been cast brilliantly with lots of relatable bits in the storyline. LOVE IT!

Good Fun Romcom

I'm not the biggest fan of romantic comedies, not by a long shot, but having watched this earlier with a friend I have to admit I actually really enjoyed it. Its a nice, easy, feel-good movie that has a good mix of chuckle-comedy rather than belly laughs, nods to typical scenarios most of us have been through and well timed observational humour, all cantered around a transatlantic house swap between Kate Winslet and Cameron Diaz, who both want time out from their current situations to find and re-centre themselves. A nice soundtrack too and the film whizzed by having serve as nice pick up!

So boring

Thought I would give this a go as always hearing people say it's their favorite Christmas film, got half way through and gave up, it's so slow boring cheesy and predictable, was a chore to watch, cannot understand the appeal, not even very festive

Ultimate Feelgood Film

I almost didn't watch this but I'm so glad that I did.
The storyline has been fully described in other reviews so I won't repeat this.
Lovely heartwarming film! Let the cynics scoff. I loved the story, the acting, the music, the scenery and the ending.
One extra bonus for me: No 'grunty', 'groany', boring sex scenes - Only implied.
Pure escapism! - Just what I needed at the start of another 'lockdown'.
If you want realism, don't watch this film - Otherwise I fully reccomend it!

This was recommended to me by a work colleague, and being a sucker for a good rom-com, I thought I'd check it out. Having watched it, I'm blown away by the fact that it has Kate Winslet AND Cameron Diaz in it, yet I'd never even heard of it until now, despite having watched most titles they've starred in.

It's a great film; thoroughly entertaining, with plenty of moments that make you smile, laugh, cry, or simply go 'aww'. Well worth a watch.
