These have not really had a lot of use - for the first 6 months I had them, they were used no more than 3 hours per week on average. Since April I have probably worn them 7 or 8 hours per week. Both boots are now showing exactly the same problem in that the sole is separating from the inside front of the upper boot. Unless I can replace them quickly I doubt they will last another few weeks and they now offer no waterproof protection at all. The soles and uppers both have loads of wear left in them but not if they are not connected to each other.
Perhaps my expectations are too high and mid-range boots are not built to last, but this is just not good at all. These would be 3-4 star boots if they had a longer life but I'm really disappointed and will not buy Hi Tec again.
Generally I like Hi-Tec kit but these are absolutely terrible.
First time I wore them out, I got back from my walk with soreness to the left side of my shins. There is absolutely no give in the supports of these boots, so I had to start wearing them with out the top eye of the boot not used.
A walk in wet grass and my feet were sodden.
The final straw for me is the inner lining is starting to crease up in side and this is leading to blisters where I shouldn't be getting blisters.
I'm going to try to return the goods.
The second pair of size 7 boots arrived the next day (so 5 stars to Amazon for customer service) and I tried on the left boot. It was still unacceptably tight with a thin sock and the left one wasn't much better. Bear in mind that, at this point, I had BOTH pairs of boots, so I was able to compare the fit of all four boots immediately, I didn't have to rely on memory. (The left boot of pair 1 SEEMED to be smaller all round than the others, but whether that is just my imagination or not, I can't say.)
I've used Hi-Tec Trails, in a size 7, for 30 years or so, but they seem to be discontinued, so I thought that the sizing would, at least, be similar, and the fact that these are recommended by the Duke of Edinburgh's Scheme led me to think that I would get a reasonably decent pair of boots in which to walk the dog. It would seem not.
