HEAVEN- CREATED BY TWO GENIUSES

When the talents of two European film masters come together, the chances of getting a classic film is very high. This film has a screenplay by the Polish film maker Krzysztof Kieslowski(The Double Life of Veronique)and is directed by the German Tom Tykwer(of Run Lola Run and The International). Together they have created a film of surreal beauty.

The film is a story of revenge, guilt and redemption through love. Philippa, a British English teacher in Italy wants to take a revenge on the drug dealers, who were responsible for the death of her husband, places a bomb in a garbage can in the offices of the drug dealer. The bomb lands somewhere else when the cleaners empty the garbage can, thereby killing four innocents. She is gripped by the guilt of killing innocent lives. A young police officer who interprets for her during the interrogation falls in love with her and helps her escape.

The performance of Cate Blanchett as Philippa is perfect, whereas the role of the helping police officer is played with masterful understatement by Giovanni Ribisi

This film is a visual delight and feast created by the cinematographer Frank Griebe. To this date, I have never ever seen the Italian countryside photographed so beautifully in any film. It has almost the touch of surreal paintings. The background music is equally haunting.

Five stars to the director, screenplay writer,Cate Blanchett and Giovanni Ribisi and not to forget the cinematographer.

This film will remain long in the memory.

A MUST for all fans of Krystof Kyzlowski! If you want a challenging film to spend an afternoon with, try this! Five stars is genuinely too little for this!!!

Didn't quite live up to my expectations - thought the plot was a bit weak - but Cate Blanchett's portrayal of the character she played was done very well.
