People keep saying "Guys will cringe!" Nah, I didn't, because I'm not a pervert. This is the tale of a young girl, who get's friendly with a molester/rapist/killer and who get's revenge by holding him hostage and putting him through some amazing torment that every person like this piece of s*** deserves. It's a powerful film, chilling, but one to be experienced. It's uncomfortable, but very well made and shot. We all here stories of grown men seducing young girls online, getting them involved with inappropriate things, and you just wish that they would die somewhere. Well, this film really does give you a sense of this, but in the best possible way. The concept is not only thought provoking, but also genuinely moving as we see a clearly troubled young girl, treating this paedophile how people like him treat kids like her to some degree, the torment, humiliation, and I almost got the sense, wasn't sure if this was the case but got the sense that she had something happen to her in the past in order for her to have so much anger for men like him. We see that she almost understands him mentally, and can almost read his thoughts, like she's had dealings with people like him but in the complete opposite way if you know what I mean. Hence, why she's so switched on to him. The film doesn't reveal much about her past, but you get the impression she's gone through some crazy stuff at some point in time. Great movie, great acting, worth a watch.

Good concept. Who never thought, hearing on the TV about paedophiles, that they should be castrated? Young girl's revenge carried out in the name of all girls ever "touched, hurt, screwed or killed" by a peadophile. Movie starts sweetly. I was wondering what the hell is a 30-something year old guy doing inviting 14 y.o. girl to his flat? What is he thinking? In the same time girl's character doesn't seem credible, truthful. She is too smart, to clever for a 14 y.o. The flirty conversations she starts (!) with the man, asking about hiis sexual encounters with the models would be too embarasing for many adult women, let alon a teenage girl. Secondly, she is tiny girl? Why is she such a formidable, invincible oponent? She prooves to be stronger than a healthy grown up man and manhandles him like he was a baby. She seems to predict his next steps. Even armed with a scalpel, the man is helpless in combat. It just all seems implausible. I was starting to feel sorry for the guy - espacially that for most of the movie it's not clear whether he is guilty or not. I am sure this is wrong - a viewer should rot for the girl, as she supposed to be seen as vengeance angel. Instead, she is just annoying, irritating, badly portrayed brat. Overall, a good concept for a tense movie that will raise your adrenaline levels, but last 50 minutes are simply tiring. I couldn't wait for it to finish.

My fav suspense and revenge movie of all time

I remember I brought this movie on DVD over a decade ago and didn't know what to expect.
I am glad I did purchase this movie.
Hayley is a precocious, and highly intelligent 14 year old who meets with a photographer that is twice her age and things are about to get a drastic change as the tables are turned.
Brilliant acting, fast paced and keeps your eyes glued on the screen. I really cheered for Haley because as a Woman who cannot stand kids or animals getting hurt. Those that hate this movie, I don't trust you. It's like Fatal Attraction which scares people to have extramarital affairs, this one scares white van people. Best revenge movie that is disturbing, gripping, shocking with a brilliant message. Well done 10 out of 10.

A far fetched fantasy revenge flick
Verified purchase
It's almost like it's a public information film for sex offenders- with preachy dialogue in places- but the girl has no right to take the moral high ground if she is prepared to plan and execute such revenge. I was left wondering who was the most twisted, him or her. It's also far fetched that a 14 year old girl could do all that; I was half expecting it to be revealed at the end that she was actually a 24 year old just escaped from an institution, but that didn't happen, which is a shame because it might have made the film better and more believable.

Starts ok, but quickly becomes less believable than "I spit in your grave". Helen Page is a great actress and she looks 14, but she doesn't look like an angel of death who would have the energy, stamina, physical and mental strength to devise and execute such a plan, on someone she hasn't ever met before. That's not on her, it's the story that's BS.
The "funny" thing is that initially her character was supposed to be 12 ! Yeah, right ...

Obnoxious heroine.

I really wanted to like this movie as I like the storyline, and I love female-led revenge movies.
Unfortunately the heroine of this tale was such a horrid, prissy, preachy little cow I ended up wanting the nonce to win. And that can't be right.
So I didn't finish it. I may pass it on to a friend though.

Don't Read Reviews That Give Away Any Of The Plot

If you go into this film blind then it will keep you absorbed and wondering. Perhaps, the basic premise is a implausible but it is still a very good two character psycho-drama that has you rivetted. The performances especially from Ellen page are so natural for such an unnatural situation. Watch I imagine you'll love it or hate it and most probably the former.

Hard Candy Review
Verified purchase
A rather thought provoking and almost psychological thriller that is well worth viewing. Hard Candy follows Hayley Stark, a 14 year old girl who has been talking online with a 32 year old photographer name Jeff - after they meet up in real life they hit it off even with the massive age difference. What follows is spectacularly done, and may have some male viewers cringing, as Hayley decides to exact punishment on Jeff, who we can all guess by now is a 'suspected' child molester. With superb story twists and chemistry between the two main leads, Hard Candy is a must see
