One of the worst films ever made

If you just put aside the cute and endearing child like acting from the main female protagonist, which becomes really annoying after ten minutes, and focus on the film, it is just terrible.

This is a force of nature, we can not explain it. is said over and over again, to try and compensate for what a shockingly poor film, the director doesn't even know what is happening. It is utter and consistent nonsense. When films like this are popular I literally lose faith in the human race and it's basic intelligence to identify utter crap when it is put in from of them.

Unsettling
Verified purchase
Received wisdom might have you believe all sorts of negative things about this film, but if you haven't seen it I'd urge you to give it a go. It's unsettling, imaginative and downright disturbing in parts, a horror film that has a lot more to offer than by-the-numbers scares. No reliance on cynically engineered jump shots, overblown effects or yet-another-spooky-child-with-a-jerky-walk. As such The Happening is hugely refreshing, and a deserves a better reputation.

Horror scenes are good without being too graphic.

The happening is a good title. It's about a life changing event that takes place over a fairly short period of time. The story line is not detailed but but there is enough of it to keep you interested. If you are used to the very graphic horror scenes shown in a lot of todays films and computer games you may find these a little too tame. Personally I like to let my imagination run wild so this was ideal for me.

A killer breeze in the trees, oh please.....

I saw this film years ago when it first came out and thought it was pretty awful. People running from the wind is the most dramatic ‘visual’ you can have.

I thought I’d give it another go, maybe it wasn’t as bad as I thought. As it turned out, I was right to do so, it’s actually far much worse than I remember.

Great B movie well worth watch.

This was very enjoyable but strange in tone. It is very cheaply made and feels like an old B movie and acting is quite odd but we recommend it! Mark Wahlberg was great, Zooey Deschanel not great but I think that was in the character and direction. Watch it, it is a nice tense thriller/mass extinction movie.

I see annoying people
Verified purchase
Something horrible is happening with the plants in the North West of the USA; the Worst Hay Fever Evah! But instead of the explosions of Hobbesian violence that such stories usually entail the Americans suffering the attack talk to each other and endeavour to help each other in a rational and helpful way. There is a little violence (other than the effect of the happening) but in general there is more Willy Wonka than Night of the Living Dead. Amidst the full horror of watching Mark Wahlberg's character thinking (with you shouting advice at the screen) there are some brilliant moments where the sight of a wind blowing across a verdant field induces terror in the watcher. I suspect its general slowness and the annoying main leads will not make it as popular as it might be, but it has its moments.
