The wool is thick and soft. I can think of no other slippers that are so warm. The moulded footbed is superbly comfortable and the cork sole is both comfortable and practical for brief trips outside. I’ve even found myself in town wearing them like a half-wit, having forgotten to change into my shoes. They’re just so very useful.
The sole will barely wear down in two years around the house but the cork section will need some cork sealant applied once every year or so. More perhaps as they age.
In terms of size, like many German-made shoes and clothes they are a little on the large size. Buy them from a vendor who offers free returns if you don’t know your size, or be prepared to pay a lot to return them overseas. As a personal rule by thumb I always buy them in EU sizing. The UK reference sizes are always wrong. A men’s size 7 for example will arrive as anything between 39-42 EU. Now I won’t order unless the sizing is stated in EU sizes. The conversion charts are literally never correct. I would also suggest buying a half or full size down from your usual shoe size even if you wear them with socks. They will stretch slightly over time and if they aren’t snug when they’re new then they will feel like boats after a year. Yes sizing is not straightforward with these but they’re worth the effort of finding your size. If you don’t know your size, I say again, buy only if free returns are offered. If it helps I would say these are about the same as Birkenstock’s in sizing and indeed in fit.
In conclusion these are the best slippers I’ve ever found. They’re comfortable, warm, hard wearing, breathable and made mostly of natural materials. Your feet will love them and your partners will pinch them if there’s any way they can get their feet into them. I hope this was helpful.
I then tried some nice wool felt slippers and they were excellent but I noticed during the lockdown that my feet were getting sore – the only time I was wearing shoes was for my daily hour-long walk or run. I needed more arch support for around the house. I'm a huge fan of Birkenstocks but decided to try out Haflinger wool felt slip-on shoes/slippers, in large part because the softer rubber sole and the nicer styling for an indoor-only shoe.
I now have two pairs to rotate around the house and will be taking one into work when the lockdown ends. These are the best purchase I've made in a long long time.
They are comfortable, hard wearing and they look pretty cool too. She won’t entertain any other type, wears them inside and out and has had a different colour each time.
I know she’d be happy to recommend them.
