5.0 out of 5 stars Zombie boots -will not die
By OutAndAbout on 12 May 2017
2020 update - Another year! It is July 2020 and these are still my primary walking boots. Probably another 800 miles on them now and they will not give up. I have 'replaced' these twice now, once with another brand and then with a new pair the same but a size bigger. I still come back to these for any walk when I need dependable boots. The newer version (I have had the 'new' ones about 15 months) of this boot is ok, but I go back to the old one unless I really need to let them dry.

2019 review - I have now done around 800-1000 miles in these. The photos were taken March 2019, I bought these boots May 2017, so the photos show 2 years of long distance wear. The soles show a LITTLE sign of wear, but the grip and profile is still great and you would NEVER guess how many miles these have done, see photos. I have worn through the liner on the inside of the shoe, I usually have gaffer tape on this, not for waterproofing, just to make it smooth. Lining wear is inevitable in time, this is why you buy LEATHER boots and treat them well, the leather will keep your feet dry long after the goretex gives up. Recently there was a little water leak in the left boot at the tongue, but vaseline has fixed that, these boots have few seams so keeping them waterproof with wax or dubbin (or vaseline!) is much easier.

These are solid without being too heavy and were reasonably comfortable out of the box. I wore them around the house for a couple of days before doing a 4 mile and then 7 mile jaunt in them. I chose these as they look like another of the Grisport range, but do not have the vibram sole. I am not so keen on vibram, as they have been a bit slippy in the past. I have another pair of boots with vibram soles now (I generally have 2 pairs of boots at a time) and the vibram soles slip a LOT more than these ones. The lugs are bigger on the Grisport and the rubber seems to be a better type than on the vibram. They are pretty reasonable at blocking the feel of rocks on the path, but not too hard on the foot.

I had one set of blisters from these about 700 miles ago. I think it was down to poor lacing and the wool socks, as I have have had nothing in the way of blister since then. Another observation is that the top lacing hooks do not look very solid, they are made of sheet metal and one has started to bend a bit, see photo. However, I lace quite tightly and they have done a ton of miles and never failed, so looks may be deceiving.

I was out walking in them a while ago and thinking about this review, and wondering if I would drop it to 4, based on the points above. I decided not to. These are £70 full leather boots. They are not £200 zambelan, asolo or aku (but more than happy to try those if anyone wants to offer me ;-) So, for a £70 pair of boots I think they deserve 5 stars, at any price they have lived up to exactly what you want from a boot. Dry feet, no slips or falls and comfort.
