A real feel good film

Childhood memories that are cherished are hidden deep inside the lead character wonderfully depicted by Russell Crowe. As he spends time in his inherited French summer home of old he begins to realize that life in the fast lane isn’t the actual answer to a happy existence. This well made beautiful film depicts this situation most eloquently for me. Heartwarming and rather funny in parts with a great soundtrack, brilliant cast and the most stunning scenery. Recommended.

Vive la France

As someone who spent seven years working in France all be it the French alps, but traveling throughout France in my time off I fell in love with this film as a fantasy I’d love to live for real. Going back to work in the city or give it all up to run the estate producing beautiful wine would have taken me all of a minute to make the right decision as Russel Crowe character eventually did. Have watched this film several times and live for the fantasy that I could live this life.

a Provencal fantasy par excellence

rich characters, scenery and colours - Ridley Scott collaborated with his friend Peter Mayle to capture the ideal of a privileged yet carefree alternative life in France. This story probably underlies all the "Escape to the Chateau" adventurers fantasies. On a cold, dark March evening in England it is just the escape a self-isolator needs!

Great movie - Region B Blu-Ray with English Audio

Been waiting for a UK Blu-Ray version of A Good Year for years.
Was browsing Amazon and stumbled across this Spanish release.
After checking the info ordered it and just arrived and can confirm :-

Region B playback
Audio in English (didn't have to change any settings)
And most importantly cracking picture.

This movie got pretty slated on release but always thought it was pretty good.
Ridley Scott's shots of Provence are beautifully shot.
Can relay recommend this Blu-Ray for a night in and has to be watched with a glass of red wine!

Note - The film is based on the book, "A Good Year" by Peter Mayle who has Ridley Scott as a neighbour.
It was Scott who suggested to Mayle, it would be a good idea to write a novel on an Englishman in a fish out of water comedy scenario.

Not Comedy. Not drama. Unconvincing Romance

I read from some reviews that this is an abridged chopped up version of the original film and book.
However, if you like the sound of Russell Crowe's voice, unaltered in tone for a couple of hours, this is the film for you. The setting was nice, which is the only positive thing I can think of. Unless of course, you'd like the sound of Russell Crowe's voice, unaltered in tone for two hours with little plot development.

A Good Year - an Excellent Film

Russell Crowe is unexpectedly good as a British stock market champion who has lost his soul to the God of money and greed. He inherits a Chateau in Provence, previously owned by an uncle whom he remembers with affection and with whom he holidayed when a boy. Russell Crowe initially intends to sell the Chateau to add to his fortune, but gradually and almost imperceptibly he falls in love with the Chateau, Provence, and the People. A delightful film made even better by the most imaginative choices of music - French, English and American - from his uncle's collection. Just listen to "The Wedding Samba" by Edmundo Ross, or Je Chante by Charles Trenet! Blew me away! The soundtrack album is still available and I would highly recommend it AND the film

I was bored tonight. So I thought what should I watch... A Good Year... hmm... seen it three times already... should I really watch it again?? Oh yes. Wonderful film... very charming... and has Marion Cotillard AND Abbie Cornish in it... I mean... c'mon if that's not reason enough I don't know what is. Press play... go on... you know you want to....
