Had been putting off watching this and now I know why

I realise this film has a totally different angle from Mississippi Burning and is basically a courtroom drama but it managed to lose all tension and was way too worthy for my liking.

Whoopi Goldberg is a wonderful comic but in her more serious roles she just comes across as Whoopi and not the character she is supposed to be playing. James Woods hammed his part and Baldwin just turned up for work.

Very disappointed and now know why I had been putting off watching this.

Right from the off with the titles, this movie shows it's going for worthy, and in that it succeeds well. The characters are black and white, but not just in the sense of skin colour. The good guys are perfect, while the bad guys are awful - there's no nuance in any of them. And the script is pretty poor - at no point did I feel this was how people would really talk. Add in the never-growing children - still the same age after 5 or so years as they were at the beginning of the film.

On the upside Goldberg puts in a decent performance and Baldwin does the best he can with what he's been given. And the story is an important one, so overall I don't feel it was a total waste of time watching it. But the same message has been given much more effectively in other films - Mississippi Burning and A Time to Kill, to name but two.

baldwin, goldberg and woods on top form.

if you like mississippi burning this will be right up your street though more of a courtroom drama it is a true story and the three main actors are on top form especially james woods who is amazing as the ageing racist killer who murdered whoopie goldbergs husband years before and alec baldwin who against the advice of freinds and family is trying to see justice done in court. william h macey, craig t nelson and virginia madsen are also good in supporting roles in what is probably rob reiner's finest directorial work. bargain for owners of multi region dvd players. why this is not available on uk region 2 is beyond me as it is one of the best true movies of the last 20 years. gave it 4 stars not 5 as i think mississippi burning shades it. also check out murder in mississippi' which is a kind of prequel to burning'.

One of the best Movies I have seen in a long time> Excellent Performance from the Actors and what can be said for Whoopee Goldberg and Alec Baldwin bothe superbe Actors in their own right, they brought true meaning to this Movie I am not going to give the Movie away. But its great to see real life events on the screen. I am often ashamed of what White People do in the Lord's Name or in the name of their Birth Land but we are not the only Race its a wake up call
