This is a sweet and easy to watch 1977 Comedy starring George Segal and Jane Fonda who play husband and wife who have a young son.

George Segal plays Dick who is well-paid Aerospace Executive who is suddenly, unexpectedly and unfairly fired by his Boss.

When Dick and Jane check their financial position they realise that they have a full mortgage, no assets and no formal qualifications. They just have Dick's experience in his Field. They are also is the middle of having a costly swimming pool built.

Dick has to claim Welfare and meets a kind chap who helps him to claim quickly all that he is legally entitled to. However Dick’s Welfare Clerk sees him working for cash one night in the chorus of a local production of Carmen and consequently stops his Welfare for three years.

The family are now desperate for cash and he and his wife decide to rob a Drug Store with hilarious consequences. After a while they both get more proficient in this enterprise and thus have enough money to continue living the way to which they have both become accustomed.

Eventually they devise a clever way of getting back financially at their Boss, who turns out to be crooked.

The two funniest moments are when Jane finds a job as a Fashion Model which doesn’t work out the way that she hopes. Later the two may qualify to be on the Food Stamp Program. However earlier in the day Jane manages to keep some cash from a bungled robbery by a third party when attending a Loan Company. They decide to have a blow out and organise a grand dinner with champagne. However this happens to be the night when the Welfare man comes to check their eligibility!!!

This film is worth acquiring even if it is only to see Jane Fonda in her prime and at her wittiest. George Segal is excellent too. Like most comedies it can be watched again and again.

One moral from this film is that you must try and build up some financial protection for yourself as one never knows when one may lose his or her job either fairly or unfairly.

much better than the remake with the unwatchable Jim Carrey

A lightweight film with two likeable leads, much better than the remake with the unwatchable Jim Carrey.
