Great atmospheric dark age adventure
Verified purchase
A decent mid budget, Dark ages action adventure set during the Mongol invasion of a simple hunter gatherer/farming tribes lands, living high in the mountains and forests. (the movie doesnt state the exact location but it seems maybe central or norther Europe..)
Takes a decent amount of time to set the scene and build up some likable characters and earthy culture...
the landscapes are beautiful and the costumes and village settings feel authentic!!!
Throughout the second and third acts the movie ramps up the action and drama with some decent battles and good fight choreography.. I'm totally sick of all the super amateur low budget "Viking" and "Medieval" movies here on Amazon and this was a great surprise to find something decent in my recommend list!!!!
Loads of people complaining about the originality of the movie, but...
It is a story about ancient peoples trying to surivive the rapid encroaching of a large military nation in to their lands, and this kind of thing actually happened all over the globe for thousands of years, hundreds of cultures wiped out or enslaved, fighting to protect their way of life... so to pigeon hole any film with this theme as ripping off one or another is just foolish!!!
If you like swords and adventure, battles in the beautiful mountains and forests this is a great watch...
its not a a massive blockbuster epic, its not life changing, but its a good solid evenings entertainment!!!

its 99p to rent on SD and averaging 3.5 stars, which pretty much tells you what your in store for: average. however its on the decent side of average, in terms of overlay dramatic action, dubious acting, cliched scenery, implausible plot, etc. I used the fast forward a few times, as it is around two hours. But generally serves the purpose of appealing to anyone who likes the generic celtic/saxon/mogul mash up. I've recently started a nutrition plan, including red cabbage and various mushrooms that have put me on a more positive vibe, hence I'll give it 4 stars instead of 2. Happy to swap red cabbage recipes......

First of all if you would know the story of this movie production, you maybe could see it from different perspective
Ukrainian movie production was in stagnation for over 20 years, so its just their beginning
Most of their budget went to the actors, so its low budget movie
Bear wasn't "real" looking lol
but a part from that, i like there wasn't huge amount of graphics, keeping more organic
And no unrealistic fighting choreography
In my opinion good movie, especially for the amount of money it was made
Good family movie

Some likeable characters and some horrible ones. Good action scenes. Poor bear - I didn't like seeing it being killed.
