Nouveau Shamanic meets methodical impersonation a.k.a greatest artwork of 20th century
Verified purchase
In 100 years I guarantee this will be seen as a masterpiece. The concept, blatant use of stuntmen and outrageously contrived use of religious symbolism. Above all though this film had the greatest actors impersonating actors as characters who become each others character in history. The film deconstructs everything and it doesn’t even feel ironic. I was alive to see this film and I’m grateful for that. I wake up everyday with the image of Cages bulging eyes burnt onto my retina as he gropes a young choir girl. This people is Art. High Art! As I lay back my head and look at the stars I think to myself...

I want to take his face... OFF!

Check , second hand or used blu rays condition before you buy .

Overall , my complaint is with the seller. The film i lik, but when I'm paying similar price to other blu ray discs i expect a standard. On this occasion it wasn't met..
I'm nit picking but it bugged me..
Delivery was fine, the case was not as shown on Amazon marketplace .. when it arrived there were stickers on the front of the case , which i had to remove , and also the case was damaged - with a crack on the edge, it does still open and close but , again I'm not happy paying the amount i did when comparatively i get better condition films from other sellers.

Great Film With Strong Cast
Verified purchase
I remember watching this Film when it first come out, it has a strong cast in Cage and Travolta taking the lead roles. A strong story with action from the outset which involves the characters swapping roles. Their was a few good Films around this time such as The Rock to name another.

Well worth the watch since Hollywood is struggling to come up with some good films these days.

If not for usual Cage and Woo roughness, it would have been at least a 4 stars film.

Too bad that this film, despite some very intelligent ideas and great scenes, does not seem to be consistent enough to be judge entirely good, otherwise I would have given it at least four stars.
The idea of the contraddiction and the existential short circuit produced by the exchange of personalities is developed very well, and the two actors are so good to imitate one another's tic, expressions, body language to convey that.
This is a narrative idea that brilliatnly and dramatically suggest how good and bad are exchangeable and totally relative sometimes, and there is no room for judgement and absolute justice to decide who is right and who is wrong.
There are also some impressive scenes, where John Woo shows his talent and art (the spectacular gunfight with the music of "Over the Rainbow").
But still the Director shows some flawes, that, to me, are not due to Studios and Production influence on him, but because he is a little kitsch and rough himself (enough with slow motion, doves, pointless camera movements, etc...) And you can tell it also by some ridiculous moments whee Nicolas Cage confirm to be Nicolas Cage (no matter of the "face exchange") and overacts as usual. The blu ray is very good anyway and the film is enjoyable and not stupid

This movie was pretty terrible on all counts. Implausible plot, slow direction and editing and poor casting. So glad I didn’t pay to go to the cinema to see it.
