I resisted buying a kindle right up until the lockdown, when I realised that the library would be closed, and I'd need my fix of reading matter to get me through. I'm so glad I did, it has been a lifesaver. It's so convenient to browse online and download books and I'm still working through the free books available. The light makes it easy to read in bright sun, or with a bedside light, and I can adjust the font size so as not to need my glasses.
An all round bargain.

Not as good as my Kindle Touch from 2013

I bought this after leaving my trusty Kindle Touch in an airport. I loved that Kindle!! This is similar. It is the same size so is comfortable to hold with one hand. My old Kindle cover was leather and was only slightly scuffed after 7 years of being carted around. I was sure a synthetic material wouldn't be as good, but this cover is a great colour and seems strong. I also like the magnetic element of the cover as it turns the screen to sleep mode when closed (and quickly turns it on when opened).
I didn't want a back lit (or even front-lit) screen and it took me a few weeks to discover that by
turning it right down I could actually turn the light off!! If you like a lit screen, then I am sure this is a good one! The touch screen function is dodgy. With my old kindle I just held the on/off button down until it turned off. With this one when I hold the button down, a message comes up on screen to ask if I want to turn the screen off- but sometimes I have to press this 2 or 3 times. Frustrating. I don't like the adverts that come up when I put the screen in sleep mode (eg. if I am leaving it for just a few minutes). I loved the old screensavers on my old Kindle.

I really like this for travel. Small, light and holds its charge for a very long time. Only downside being some book covers are difficult to read as it’s converted to black & white. The main pages, however have excellent contrast so are very clear to read.
