How customer reviews and ratings work

Customer Reviews, including Product Star Ratings, help customers to learn more about the product and decide whether it is the right product for them.

To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyses reviews to verify trustworthiness.

5.0 out of 5 starsCriminally underrated dystopian Sci-fi action
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 14 November 2021
This film is an absolute classic. Is it the greatest sci-fi film of all time, no, however it's a damn good one This is a solid film which is not just another brainless action flick. I fear the main reason that this film never gained the appreciation and success that it deserved, was it was poorly marketed. I remember seeing adverts for this when it first came out, and the only focus was on the gun action, it told you nothing about the film itself. Such a shame as this film is so much more. Set after WW3, society has been destroyed and replaced by a totalitarian new order which has risen from the ashes. It has been deemed that humanity could not survive a forth world war and that the only way to prevent it, is to suppress humanities inner nature to destroy itself, the way, suppress all emotions by drugging the population to eliminate our ability to feel. A high cost, because in doing so although we have achieved peace between ourselves, and we will no longer feel anger or rage, there will also be no joy and pleasure either. Well we soon see that even this world is still far from achieving peace, as the city state Libria, through it's Grammaton Clerics who are this world's thought police are waging a war against the remains of the old world in an effort to eliminate everything that could tempt people to want to feel once again, so ofcourse the irony being in order to achieve peace, Libria is waging a perpetual war on human emotion itself and all those unwilling to give it up and live in this cold new emotionless world. I won't go any further as to do so would spoil the film, and my run down does not do this film justice. But I will say that the performances, the action and the story in this film are top notch. If you like dystopian sci-fi action films with some deeper meaning to the story, about where we could very well end up going one day if oppression of thought, the individual and censorship all get taken to the nth degree, then I can't recommend this film enough.

3.0 out of 5 starsGood film. Still cropped like the original UK Blu-Ray release.
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 8 December 2020
EDIT 2022: If you want to watch this film in its original aspect ratio in the UK you'll have to hop over to Netflix as they have it there.

This is second time I've bought this film. Reading the back of the case it says Aspect ratio 16:9 (Original Aspect ratio 2.35:1) Which made me think, oh finally this is the original anamorphic version. Well, its not. Its the same version from the last version of this film when it originally came out on Blu-ray. I could instantly tell this by the image on the disc and its exactly the same as what's on the front cover of the original Blu-ray release. This is just some sort re-issue and the image is still cropped to 1.75:1. Its exactly the same release, but with a different front cover. Why? Don't know. Guess we will never get the original 2.35:1 version here in the UK.

I love Equilibrium. It's one of my favourite films of all time, just because it's so hilariously bad. The acting is lousy, the script feels like it was thrown together in 10 minutes and the gun martial arts that enables the main character to dodge opposing bullets whilst barely moving is beyond stupid, but all of this makes the film a delight to watch. Don't listen to the 1 star reviews, those people have no sense of humour, this film is amazing, you just have to be slightly drunk to fully appreciate its genius.

5.0 out of 5 stars Worth watching if you like something thought provoking.

It's 5* from me as it's so mesmerizing, and Bale is excellent as John Preston. I watched it for the first time, then twice more!. This film is for those who like action, and especially for those who think about what it means to be human and totalitarian control. We see a version of dystopia, and mass control of the population by dosing them with 'Prozium' so they live in a state of numbness. Any item which elicits emotion is destroyed, and any person feeling is a 'sense offender' and disposed of mercilessly. What's stood out is the psychological element as you follow events and dialogue. So much packed in, in one short film, not a scene out of place. Preston misses a dose which leads to his awakening and a chain of events. His reactions are so compelling, like seeing sunrise or listening to music for the first time. You are on that journey with him. The gun kata is an interesting fight concept, and sequences were enjoyable. Preston looks great as he kicks ass! If you like thinking about a film rather than switching off, definitely give this a try.

3.0 out of 5 stars Could Do Better

Here is the problem. We are presented with a dystopia in which feeling is forbidden because feeling brings hate and rage which in turn bring war. And yet it is clear that the senior officers of that world all feel themselves. They are arrogant and worse, they hate those who feel. Perhaps with better writing and better acting, the world of Equilibrium could be better portrayed, but honestly, perhaps not. I think this might work better as a book than a film.

this is one of the (better) movies you don't know if you are not into movies, with Christian Bale (at least known since batman :-). About the story you can read by your own. One thing you should know is that responsible for this movie is Kurt Wimmer... who? ... he also created Ultraviolet -> before you stop reading because of mentioning Ultraviolet :-) try to get Ultraviolet in the extended version the cut version killed this (great) movie. So now you have two movies to watch :-)

This could have been a great film.
Story line ok, special effects and fight scenes cheesy and unlikely. However, it’s a good watch and I like it. First saw it when it was ‘new’ so fancied watching it again. A modern re-make with bigger, better effects and more depth to storylines would be great!

It was a decent film with a pretty cool storyline. It was so funny at times as the action scenes are so poorly choreographed it’s comical. It’s definitely because it’s an old film and they didn’t have the same technology but it was brilliant. Made the film so much better as we could just laugh all the way through! Would recommend but to be honest it should be free on prime

This is a pretty good movie , tbh its spoiled somewhat by excessive matrix style improbable shoot ups , esp two the end , but the overall story line and acting is very good ...Its similar to 1984 except the premise is that in order to banish War , feelings in general have been banished , via everyone using a kind of anti depressant , so rather than 'thought crimes ' there are ' sense crimes ' . I Cldnt quite give it four stars , but its definitely worth watching , leaving you thinking about it for days after .

If I need a sense of humor to watch, what in itself is trying to be a serious film, then to find it good I'd have to be insane or just foolish-minded. Luckily I don't have any feelings myself so just switched it off after 25 mins.
