A massive asteroid impact on the moon begins causing storms on earth due to the sudden changes in ocean tides. When a further examination is conducted, it's discovered that the moon's structure is now entirely unstable threatening all life on earth. With time running out, a team of scientists turn to one man, demolitions expert John Redding, in an effort to find a solution and secure the moon.

Maybe the best sci-fi of the noughties

Is no understatement to say, I was on the edge my seat throughout! Firstly, the acting! Stephen Baldwin oozed charisma and depth as the hero who is called in to save the world. Some people may scoff and say 'maybe Alec was busy'. But, pah to them naysayers!! Stephen is only second to Tom Cruise for material like this. Second, the CGI,! I haven't checked the credits, but if this wasnt ILM at the helm I'd be stunned!! Almost so real it's untrue!! Apparently Cameron ceased advanced pre production on Avatar when he saw this and said 'we have to start again'. And finally the script! It's clear that science and astrophysics experts were brought in to cover EVERY level of detail! I was never aware we had such technology to fix the moon so easily with just magnetism!!! Well, they say you learn something everyday. Can't wait for Earthstorm 2, where some Dr Evil type figure throws the earth into peril AGAIN as his scheme to harvest the moon to control the worlds fridge magnet trade backfires badly!! Just pray Stephen Baldwin isn't tied up with his Blockbuster commitments!!!

Oh dear something has broken the Moon and it is splitting into parts.
We are Americans, so lets explode Nuclear weapons in the split to join the parts together again.

erm ... explain that to me again?

However small the budget was for this amateur rubbish is no excuse

Nonsense plot, acting ok but if anyone in cast, crew or production had any scientific education at all they should have run a mile from this embarrassment of a script. The moon would either have broken up immediately on impact or would have stabilised because of gravity. The growing fissure that would lead to the break up of the Moon is not possible. Also, shuttles don't have artificial gravity. And the Moon suddenly acquiring a magnetic field wouldn't cause all the chunks of rock to suddenly fall back on the moon from thousands of miles away and correct its orbit in a few minutes. It's just stupid.

An easy 90 minute viewing.

Obviously a tv movie budget, not great but not awful cgi. Then of course accompanied by the obligatory piano/keyboard "musak" score. This made me think this was originally aired mid afternoon on a family friendly satellite channel at some point.

Inoffensive but engaging, probably because it gets to the point rather quickly and dispenses with any schmaltzy padding [see Michael Bay's Armageddon re: Schmaltzy padding]. I don't really worry about the "science" in these things, probably because a) I'm not that smart and b) I just see the "science" as an explanation/resolution for "stuff happening" in the film, rather than actual science.

Would I watch it again? Probably not, but it was just long enough not to outstay it's welcome.

Truly dreadful in just about all respects. Awful acting, laughable special effects and props, and scientific authenticity that made my 6 year old laugh.

If you've nothing better to do, like polishing the cutlery.

This Armageddon rip off makes Armageddon seem plausible. Full of pseudo-science and more plot holes than a Swiss cheese. Stephen Baldwin is no Bruce Willis. But hey! I didn't expect it to be good but it was fun - hence 3 VERY generous stars.

Sci-Fi for a wet afternoon.

Excellent quality picture on this disc. First saw the movie on TV and it's nice to now have the full version on DVD. I'm a big fan of all the Baldwin brothers, even if they do occasionally make a bad movie, and being a Sci-Fi fan I liked this one. Could have done without Dirk Benedict whome i've never been a fan of, but if you have to have a smarmy twit you may as well give the part to him. Five stars for the quality of the print, three for the story.
