Terrible

This is a very poor film. The story is not believable and nor are the characters. The lengthy silences serve no purpose except to irritate the audience. The main character is supposed to be some kind of hero, judging by the song at the end. Perhaps it's ironic, I don't know. But he is certainly not a hero. He's a psychopath and a killer. The people he interacts with are no better. The girl he apparently falls in love with might be considered to be an innocent victim in everything that goes on, but in truth, she is a foolish girl who didn't have the sense to avoid getting mixed up with a latino criminal type and getting pregnant with him. It was her own bad decisions that got her where she ended up.

All in all, this film left a nasty taste in my mouth. There was no point to it, no lesson to be learned. Most of us like to see good triumph over bad, at least a little bit. There was no good in this story. It was all bad folks. I suppose you could glean some minor satisfaction from seeing them all kill each other.

Terrible film with poor acting

I was really looking forward to this, an actor in Ryan Gosling who I rate and a plausible story. Unfortunately it swiftly became more incredible and implausible - a stunt-driver was not defeating his hardened gangsters with his superior drivings skills but became a dead-shot and far more street wise than the mob, who started to resemble the Three Stooges in how they blundered every action. Without giving too much away, the film fell into a serious of clichés and lazy Hollywood plot lines.
Gosling himself appeared 'wooden' sometimes not talking through a scene for no good reason, unless the director thought him not talking was "cool".
I might have given it 2 stars but seeing the extremely over-rated high ranking I decided 1 star would lower the overall rating and spare many others from the unfortunate time-waste I suffered watching this.

This review will definitely be short....very short. I'm not going to bore you with big drawn out words/sentences that sound like they've been written by a columnist.

If you, like me, were looking for a fast paced, cool action movie, then you'll be glad to know I took bullet for you.

I know I'm late to the party as the movie has been out for quite some time now, however, this movie was slow, and in a very artsy fartsy way.

Was concluded/wrapped up very quickly, considering they loved to draw out each scene.

Don't bother, unless you live that sort of stuff...but that's not why most of us clicked on this title.

Find something else. As a father, I have very little time to myself, so to know I wasted my only movie night which occurs once in a blue moon on this crap, has left me a little upset😬😬

Something special about this film

I don't know what it is about this film whether it is the amazing mesmerising sound track that gives you a nostalgic feeling or the brilliant shots and cinematography? I get a craving to watch this film every so often and when ever I do it's always like I'm watching it for the first time again and I just get lost in the soundtrack.
I couldn't recommend this movie more too people, it's just so brilliant, but I can see why it isn't everyone's cup of tea, it is kinda slow burning.

In short it's a brilliant film with an amazing soundtrack that you can listen to non stop after watching it!

A fabulous Movie

The soundtrack provides a good start to the movie and the good theme continues. It is the first time I have experienced the feeling as if I was part of the movie ... although the movie simmers through the earlier parts the atmospherics are enough alone to keep you more than interested. The last the last 50 minutes or so were nothing short of exhilarating and had me on the edge of my seat. Ryan Gosling is excellent and the rest of the characters are totally believable. I am not sure I have ever seen a poor movie in which Carry Mulligan stars and this was no different. If I had a grumble I would say the theme has been done before, perhaps many times, and two excellent westerns spring to mind, However, this movie is great and I mean great!

Don't know if other reviews watched different film i found this very tedious and boring also acting by main star pathetic the droll of his voice did not seem interested in part he played could not believe that woman in it either would be interested in him as he hardly said word to her then when her husband turned up as he had been in jail seemed he was just reading his lines of sheet of paper then he said to his son let mum and her friend talk main star just walks away without saying anything 39 minuets and 44 seconds wasted on watching this guff as i went by star rating thought it would be good big let down avoid at all cost's total rubbish.

MUCH MUCH MORE TO THIS STORY THAN MEETS THE EYE, OUR MYSTERIOUS LEAD CHARACTER IS ENIGMATIC AND MYSTERIOUS AT THE SAME TIME. MANY SEEM TO THINK HE DIES AT THE END WHEN CLEARLY ITS NOT THE CASE !.
AN EXCELLENT MODERN DAY TELLING OF A HERO....BUT YOU MUST CONSTANTLY WATCH OUT FOR THE SUBTLETIES
THROUGHOUT SUCH AS THE DOUBLE HEART BEAT SOUND AT THE START WHICH IS TELLING US THAT OUR LEAD MAN AND LEAD FEMALE ARE STAR CROSSED LOVERS, IT ALL MAKES SENSE IF YOU PAY ATTENTION SERIOUSLY AND THEN WATCH IT A SECOND TIME A WEEK LATER SAY.....ITS DEEP, EVEN THE MUSIC SPELLS OUT THE DEEP MEANINGS AND PARTICULARLY WITH THE OLD CLASSIC "OH MY LOVE" ESPECIALLY AT THE TIME IT IS PLAYED IN THE FILM, AND MASKED UP TO !. ITS A GEM OF A FILM FULL OF WONDERFUL PERFORMANCES.

Excellent, neo-noir film, with amazing cinematography backing up a brilliant script and super acting
Verified purchase
If you like neo-noir thrillers, with a bit of a Tarantino-esque twist, then this is a very good watch. Tightly scripted and with a brilliant cast, all acting out of their skins, Drive hooks you early on and just keeps getting better and better. The whole thing is delivered with amazing cinematography, backing up a superb script. Very entertaining and thought-provoking. There are a couple of moments where the violence is disturbing, but that's kind of the point, so it all hangs together.
