For more than a century, the tale of Jekyll and Hyde has captivated the world imagination. In this chilling and diabolically clever reinvention, evil lives again.

Not great but my favourite Jekyll/Hyde movie
Verified purchase
Is this the best movie? No. Does it matter? No.
I like the Jekyll&Hyde story and have watched a few different takes on the source material in my time. This is one of the few that I wanted to buy and own for myself. It's well acted, even if the script does turn into a court room drama for some reason, which you should enjoy, especially if you liked movies such as Primal Fear, which, like this movie gives you 5 shots of court for every bit of action there is.
It's not boring, I was entertained throughout this whole film and the problems I have with it are tiny and not really enough for to ruin the movie. For instance, the decision to make Hyde a slightly ott English guy (compared to Jekylls normal American) jarred in a couple scenes for brief moments but generally I found him to be fun. Dougray Scott's American accent isnt terrible (in my opinion) it's just hard to notice sometimes, especially if you're not paying close attention. I was on my second viewing before I realised he was meant to be American.
The ending of the courtroom scene feels like an easy copout and the twist ending might mildly surprise you the first time round but you'll probably see it coming a mile off.
For all it's flaws, it's still one of my favourite portrayals of the Jekyll/Hyde story. A good movie so long as you don't take it too seriously or expect everything to make sense.

A very poor adaptation of a brilliant classic. Bought this for my year 11 class (I'm an English teacher). Will not show it to them.

Jekyll and Hyde: Time Traveller?
Verified purchase
Beware! This version is a modern retelling of the Jekyll and Hyde story. It is based in modern times and is not the same as those of literary history. Unfortunately no decent adaptations have been made of the story and it is a difficult story to find a good film about. The only decent version is 'Jekyll and Hyde' starring Michael Caine. Although this is only available as a Spanish import. It is a shame that a modern remake is not made that keeps to the same time frame. Time to contact Hollywood.

This film is presented as dreadful. To what extent do you agree?
Verified purchase
Paolo Barzman presents this film as abhorrent and this is shown when Claire Wheaton, who doesn't exist in Stevenson's story, is added to the narrative, which perhaps adds even more dreadfulness to the already bad film. This is supported by the fact that during the 21st century Amazon has been flooded by genuinely terrible versions of famous stories. The effect of this on the viewer is disappointing as it has ruined the original for them, perhaps even causing some distress at how bad this is.

Good Vs Bad...It's Bad all the way!!

Once and for all it is an old Celtic surname and it is pronounced 'Jee-kill' as to rhyme with treacle and not I repeat not Jackal as to rhyme with Apple.

I hope all the English teachers who have added their invaluable reviews on this page have been pronouncing it correctly to all their students.

If not then you really need to improve otherwise we will have to have a discussion with your parents.

As for the film it was 89 minutes too long.

Ok film

Bought this film as I was recommended this for my daughters study of the book. It’s a great film, but the film is not relating enough to the original book. I can’t recommend this for the use as a subliminal to the study of the true story.
