Sometimes I Doubt Your Commitment to Sparkle Motion

One of the finest films ever made and one that deserves - no, requires - repeated viewings.
Donnie Darko is a superhero movie about a boy who saves The World. Some people might see it as just another film about high school shenanigans, but they are very wrong and unfortunately for them they will never know the truth.
Future, past and present come together in a celebration of Fear and Love involving schizophrenia and psychotherapy; time travel and alternate universes; godliness and the antichrist; life and death.
If you have seen it before, then you need to watch it again - carefully - because - trust me - you won't have understood it the first time around. Uncounted billions of stars .... ✰✰✰✰✰✰✰✰✰✰

A film to come back to again and again!

This is my very favourite film of all time and one of those that I wish I hadn't seen before so that I could start getting to know it all over again! I will not outline the story for you as I don't wish to spoil it for you; suffice to say that this film touches me emotionally and spiritually every time I watch it. It is very funny in places too!

Jake Gyllenhall is wonderful in the title role and he will always be Donnie Darko to me. The other actors are superb too and it comes together beautifully with all their roles. I watch this film at least once a year and always know when it is time to do so. Once you have seen it, perhaps after a few watches, it is worth checking out the many videos explaining the meaning of it all on youtube. But for me it was best to watch it first and be captivated whilst a bit confused!

Donne Darko, what can I say? A schizophrenic teenager wakes up in the middle of the road, apparently he sleep walks! He encounters a strange person wearing a rabbit like mask who tells him that the world is coming to an end.... Another scene an aeroplane engine falling out of the sky onto his family home.... the rest is unfathomable and I got bored with the story.... It's one of those movies with a story plot that is all over the place, I was really disappointed with this movie, furthermore the ending was equally weird. Not recommended!

What an excellent set this is.

Arrow have surpassed themselves, everything the Donnie Darko fan could want is here.

It is about time that someone did justice to this excellent, thought-provoking piece of art commited to film. The box set is very well made and sturdy in construction, the new artwork is wonderful and could not be better in my opinion.

The Blu-ray transfer itself has very slight grain and softness to it, but I find that it works well with the overall tone of the film (being set in the 80's). I have not watched the bonus features yet, but I expect they will not be disappointing.

Too long had Donnie Darko languished in the bargain bin of DVD/ Blu-ray releases, this one finally did the job that Donnie always deserved.

The only small gripe I have is that the book included basically re-hashes much of "The Donnie Darko Book", which I already own.

But I will still give 5 stars as the film is one of the best ever and it finally got some recognition.

Well done Arrow.

This is such a treat. A true jewel. I have seen all the extra's and both the Theatrical as the Director's Cut and my preference goes out to the Theatrical Cut just because it starts with The Killing Moon by Echo & The Bunnymen and the Theatrical Cut was just perfect so there was in fact nothing to improve. That is personal taste off course. Glad both exist. Arrow Video has done a sublime job again on the packaging and artwork. The booklet is also what this limited edition stands out to the regular one however seen i am such a fan of the movie i bought both. The story is so mysterious that you can watch the movie over and over again. It never gets boring. Each time you watch it you can enjoy it again. Cellar Door. Indeed one of the most beautiful word combination ever made. So simple and yet so beautiful and thanks to this movie i know that. Jake is pure genius - he shows already his great acting talent in this movie. And Drew off course. Such a beautiful woman and talented actress. For me this was the most beautiful Arrow Video release of 2016. Highest possible recommendation.

Clever and complex drama

I’d forgotten just how clever this film is. I watched it years ago and had forgotten much of the detail, but it’s so good, I just viewed it a couple of times on Prime video in the last week.

Jake G plays a troubled teen who’s clever and outspoken. He has a stable family life, but is having emotional issues. The film opens with a dramatic event and thereafter we watch a countdown towards a date a month ahead. He has an imaginary friend called Frank who appears in rabbit form and starts to experience strange things. This is a well plotted drama with bits falling into place as the story unfolds and other parts remains less clear. I really enjoyed it.

One of the all time greats

An iconic film, something that will require multiple viewings to be able to see every layer of the story. The lead actor is perfect for the role, showing dissolution and disdain for his world. The story itself is layered in gorgeous visuals, and an unnerving bunny shaped visitor which leaves you questioning its purpose until the end. The cinematography and music go hand in hand to provide an experience that will stay with you for years. And this Blu Ray 4k master just makes it more visceral.

Highly Recommended, Ideal for those who enjoy horror/thriller combos.

I saw Donnie Darko based on a prime recommendation and was questioning if i should watch or not. I highly recommended this movie to anyone who enjoyes movies with teen drama, social satire, a little bit of horror and a little bit of thriller. Of course it was crazy to be honest.

The cast alone is great. I'm a fan of Jake Gyllenhaal anyway, but the rest cast are also terrific: Maggie Gyllenhaal, Drew Barrymore and Seth Rogen in a youthful supporting role. Madness! I found the casting of Patrick Swayze as a bigoted motivational speaker to be particularly successful. Something different than Dirty Dancing ...
