A modern tribute and a sobering reminder of the horrorsthat occur during war.

Daniel Craig and Liev Schreiber lead an accomplished cast in delivering one of the best films available on Amazon Prime. The experiences of the Jewish people during the second World War are often conveyed in brutal manner, as historical facts which centre predominantly upon the concentration camps, whilst portraying the people herded like cattle as disempowered, weak and helpless victms. Defiance tells the story of a group of courageous women, men and children who collectively join together, in a forest, this film goes beyond beyond survival to take the fight back against to the oppressive and brutual German SS forces and fellow citizens who sold their neighbours for profit. The realities of war, harsh weather conditions and natural life occurrences in the face of abject and absolute poverty are mixed together to illustrate the sheer bravery shown in the face of adversity. Defiance is one of the most though provoking and emotional examinations of war,and the depravity of men who followed orders during this period. Grab your tissues, and close your windows, because you will feel like shouting in anger, crying in frustration and smiling in sheer admiration at a stellar performance from a fantastic cast which serves as a modern tribute to the people who died in the nameof freedom and human decency, and to those who through their sacrifice prevailed so that we can have the freedom to write about their sacrifices today.

True story but dislike subtitles.

Good film, true story and a good watch for younger generation to understand the brutality of the Nazi’s. Dehumanisation of the Jews and the way the Red Army’s racism towards them. What it took for them to just survive. A difficult watch at times but was needed to portray the brutality of the war.

I would have given 5* but for the amount of subtitles.

Watched this second time now .. after learning that family members were involved in the same fight in the same forest. Definitely resonates more now that there is reason to watch

A really great film, but had to buy it twice due to the ridiculous rental policy

It's a really really great film that everyone should watch. However, I only managed to watch half of it on one day, and when I went back to continue it two days later i had expired. I therefore had to pay all over again. It would have been cheaper to buy it outright.

This is a great movie.

The true events have been Hollywood stylised. It could have been grittier.

It makes you think about what happened to these courageous people.

I really enjoyed it and will recommend it to others.

Not only is this an amazing true story

Not only is this an amazing true story, but it is also a fantastically realised film. The script, acting, directing and score are almost perfect. You will not find a more inspiring film.
