What is going on with the sizing?

Having read the reviews about sizing, and that these are American sizes, I ordered a size 8 (US) on the basis of them being a size 12 (UK) which is my normal size. The label reads UK8 and they are way too small. I feel i've been mislead here. I want to return them but am shielding and therefore can't get to the post office. Not very impressed.

Super jeans, surprisingly so. I’m a 12/14 Uk and got a US10 and the size is perfect. BUT BUT BUT wash them on their own first... they’re super over dyed and I’d a washing disaster with the colour running

The trousers are very good, but the sizing is American, not UK. This is extremely frustrating given this is Amazon UK.
We all understand the system, so if it said it was US sizes I would know to order size 4, rather than 8.

These are lovely but sizing is wrong, I ordered UK size 18,couldn't get them anywhere near fitting me more like a size 14 ,very disappointed
