101 Films Blu-ray (2018) Release

101 Films have done a really good job with their Blu-ray release of "The Cooler". Unlike other reviewers on here i have actually bought the item and watched it and can honestly say it's a big step up in visual and audio quality compared to older DVD versions of this film.
The Blu-ray picture quality is not reference material however i was really happy with it to what i have been used to in the past. The colour palette has a muted sort of feel throughout the film, overall sharp picture and grain is quite nice. I'm no technical expert but i have tried to describe what the Blu-ray looks like in simple terms.
The audio is a big step up from previous DVD versions and is presented in LPCM 2.0 stereo and sounds great through my amplifier.
I have taken some photos of the actual item which comes in a nice slipcase complete with informative booklet about the film. Also taken some screenshots of the film from my TV on a normal Samsung phone with no enhancements. I have not watched the DVD that came in the set only the Blu-ray.
This release has some great extras on it too, overall i rate this 4/5 stars, well done 101 Films.

Great Movie

Never saw this when it was first released. Plenty of action, humour and not dated. Thoroughly enjoyed it. Set in Las Vegas around the casino and it really has everything going for it. The acting, the writing and everything else made it a must see and I will again as it really is good American cinema. William H Macy and Alec Baldwin were very good but Maria Bello was superb and very pretty indeed.
So if you want a good movie to watch this is one of them- So I say hope you enjoy it.

I like practically anything with William Macy in, and this is no exception. It's a love story and, in a stark way, something of a fairy tale, with a magical ending. Bernie Lootz is unlucky, so is hired by a crooked casino boss to sit by punters who are winning and 'cool' them so that they lose. However, when he falls in love with Natalie, one of the waitresses, and becomes happy, he loses his ability and is in trouble with his boss, and the unpleasant son who has turned up wanting money. (Spoiler follows) He finds the courage to fight back, wins a shedload and escapes with Natalie and his loot. It's an ending to make you smile because everything has turned out as it should.

stella cast should have known better

Great actors let down by predictable script and appallingly ridiculous ending. What were they thinking of? Were they just trying to make money a al Nicholas Cage to pay back losses incurred through investing with Bernie Saunders? Worth it anyway as Maria Bello a favourite.

Good first half, corny second half

Two thirds of a good movie. Good performances and a great set-up it doesn't quite work all the way through though due to some overly sentimental moments in the second half that take you out of the story. And some cheesey dialogue as well. Some strange edits where scenes just end as if they couldn't be bothered ending the scene properly. Alec Baldwin is great as a crook but a little two dimensional, not his fault though

Not a bad film but not a great one either, but still recommended for an evening's viewing. William H. Macy seems to have the face to play the down-on-his-luck underdog and together with Maria Bello in this film, the pair give a good performance as the in-love couple. It is not all gloom though, as there are some humorous moments, such as the motel scene, so for a bit of light relief, give this a go.

Blu-ray review and DVD

I bought this film on blu-ray to replace my DVD and it doesn't seem noticeably sharper. It is a collectors edition that comes in a cardboard sleeve and a booklet but unless you are a collector then there isn't any real value in those. Read elsewhere for reviews about the film which is quite good and unusual.

Why does Amazon say this film is 2018 when it was made in 2003? Anyway boring and depressing
