Strong performance from Chris Pine

A slow start but tense. Pine as a decorated marine who is discharged and faced with critical life choices. You can feel the desperation of the man. The action starts about twenty minutes in and the film does give bang for buck. Violent, some clever twists to the story. A couple of implausible moments in a film that is careful and correct about its military/spec ops environment. However the story moves swiftly enough that you don't get to dwell on them.

I was engaged with the character, there were enough differences in the man to keep me watching, to see what he was going to do. The ending was strong (no spoiler here).

worth watching

Yeh it has action, its a good story, as others have said, its a story told a thousand times, the ending is predictable, nothing new....except it writes with emotion, it makes the story a need to watch one, its not worth a penny without these actors, Chris Pine is so good he makes you want to see it to the end and come out on top, 5 stars for telling an old story with meaning.

A slow burn, so clealy not for people with ADHD and children

Very good movie that doesn't rely on constant action to keep your attention, the gun play is top notch, as is the acting. I do wish the ending was a little stretched out at the end but I don't think it lets the film down at all. If you cant appreciate a slow burn film with good characters and fantastic realistic gun play then put transformers or some other Michael bay film on as this will not be for you.

Muisc too loud; too intrusive

As above. Directing/script/editing should carry the film NOT gratuitous music. Switched off, which was a pity as acting/script etc looked good

A 90 minute film in 120 minutes

It takes about 20 minutes to get anywhere in the film. At about 45 minutes you finally get some of the promised thriller elements of action. The highly professional special forces operators, do exceptionally dumb things and fight poorly. They are easily defeated by people with pistols that they heavily outgun and their extraction plan makes no sense. It was disappointing but if you don't mind extremely slow films, and silly endings, this could be the thriller for you. It's ideal for people trying to avoid getting too excited for medical reasons.

The Contractor, it's bad on every level
Verified purchase
The Contractor is just bad, bad, bad. So bad in fact that I barely managed to watch it through to the end. The only reason I was led into watching it in the first place is because of the lead role being played by Chris Pine whose films I usually enjoy watching. And it's really thanks to Pine that I stuck with the film for as long as I did, in the hope that there would be a turn-around and that things would eventually pick up. No such luck unfortunately, it just gets progressively worse.

So what's wrong with it? Here's a list: It's full of clichés and messages about American morality, it's predictable (like comically predictable) the plot is regurgitated (basically a rehash of lots of different action films) to point of not having a single notable original idea, the action scenes are so clumsily edited together that they're not believable. Do I need to go on? Don't waste your time on this rubbish.

Predictabel Gung-ho American time filler
Verified purchase
The plot has been written 2500 times before so you know exactly what is going to happen and yes it really does. This is as bland as popcorn so can kill an hour or two watching this, but is it as satisfying as Bakewell Tart- NO it isnt. Average film in all respects.
