Slow to start, bittersweet ending

I thought this was pretty good, if a little slow to get going. And on more than one occasion I wanted to shake Adam Sandler to "get a grip", but he ultimately portrays a sympathetic character.

The ending was less believable (I mean, really, your dad was next door the whole time? Come on!) I want to know what would have happened if his shoe repair machine had NOT broken down - he could have stayed in that shop of his for decades never meeting his dad again! OK, enough of the nit-picking, it was a good yarn of the little guy beating the odds/

All in all, quite enjoyable but not for the little ones, too much (unintentional? That stiletto!) violence.

I was expecting some light-hearted fun as I've seen many films with Adam Sandler, however, I was rather irritated by the overt racial stereotypes portrayed in the first half. I thought I'd see the film through, expecting it to redeem itself. Unfortunately, it didn't!

... but this film had so many unfair racial stereotypes that I had to stop it to vent. It's boring and annoying to see the black man portrayed as the aggressor, thief, and womanizer. The stereotypes are so shockingly apparent that I am surprised that it has only been mentioned a few times - it should come with a warning for people that are tired of watching the same fake and constantly perpetuated narrative. I did not even want to give it the one star.

I dont understand the 1 ☆ ratings, just goes to show all tastes are different. I loved the plot and the acting was good, no complaints. A feel good film to relax into.

Average at best

I like Adam Sandler but as he's got older he just seems to be producing more and more rubbish. I gave this 2 stars because its not totally offensively awful, but its just a complete non-entity really. Characters are rubbish, acting is average at best and the story is so uninteresting and underdeveloped that you could easily fall asleep during this

If I were possible to leave no stars I would. This film is shockingly racist! Was expecting it to be a bit of fun but it's not. Only got partway through and can't be bothered to watch the rest.

Unpleasant, violent.

I thought this would be like a modern day fairytale but it's completely lacking in whimsy.
To "walk in someone else's shoes' means to get to know what their life is really like, but instead the main character just uses his new skill to do things like stealing a car or leaving a restaurant without paying (knowing that the customer he's impersonating will get the blame).
He sleazes over a naked woman in her shower while appearing as her boyfriend, and mugs someone for their shoes. He's generally an unpleasant man, and the film contains many scenes of violence including people being tied up and tortured.
It's not funny, and not magical.

Very unusual film! Well worth watching!

I really enjoyed this film. It was very unusual in a lot of ways and very enjoyable with a real twist in the ending. I strongly recommend you watch it, you won't be disappointed!
